I won the EuroLottey!!!! Yippy 2 Million Euros will be sent to me. I can hardly wait....
It came to a regular email, so I replied from a "special" account - not related to me. It came from Serbia. He wanted name, address, phone, etc.
Wow, are you sure this is supposed to come to me?
I can hardly believe it, I'm down to my last $10,000.
Is this some kind of scam? What do I have to do to get my money?
Is it legal, or will I have to be quiet about it?

Looks like a nice start. Short, simple and enthusiastic. Perhaps add a little more naivety by not suspecting a scam initially, unless you want to play the "I was scammed before by evil fraudsters" angle to appear as a more lucrative victim. Great job otherwise.  |

I agree, it's a very nice start and looks like the way a real victim might reply. As you continue baiting the scammer, don't forget that a real victim would remain excited about winning the money. This can be easy to forget once a bait gets rolling and the distraction of the "big prize" is really crucial to getting victims to pay out.
There are various ways you could fine-tune your starting approach, for example I prefer not to ask too many questions about the details straight away but only let them creep in, one at a time, over the first few email exchanges. But all this is a matter of personal preference as you figure out what works best for you. |
