So, the other day someone claiming to be a county sheriff calls my Mom. I happened to be over at her house at the time and was on a cell phone call and told her to take a message. The person on the line told her if I didn't come to the phone they would come to my house and arrest me. So, of course I got off the call and spoke to the man. He pretended to be a sheriff who was supposed to serve me with a summons that day and wanted to give me a heads up beforehand and give me a chance to call the people suing me before serving me. (never heard of that, but okay...) I told him, "no, go ahead and serve me and I will call them then." And he said, " In my experience once you've been served they won't discuss things with you." And then he gave me their number 855-XXX-XXXX. So I called and spoke to someone who told me they were going to serve me papers for a suit in court unless I paid on a 2004 payday loan that the check had bounced on. I vaguely remembered a payday loan from that time and they were able to provide me with the name of the place and my last four of my SSN etc. I had gotten a divorce and I didn't know of all the accounts affected by my ex-husband emptying the bank account. They told me that if I paid them $200 then they would cancel the summons and it would be taken care of. So, stupidly, probably because I was freaking out, I gave them my debit card number. They ran it for the $200 and it seemed legit, they gave me a confirmation number. Afterwards, my Mom told me she thought it was weird because the "sheriff" that had called thought we were in MN. We were on the other side of the country and when she corrected him he laughed and said he was looking at the wrong file. (Mom really should have told me this little detail before I called the idiot because if he was in our area and coming over to serve me he would know what state we were in...but I digress...) Little inconsistencies made me look up the number on Google and when I did I found I had been scammed! (embarassed ugh!)

Anyhow, I read all these posts and called and reversed the payment. Called the sheriff's office to inform them of the company impersonating a law enforcement officer. I thought that would be the end of it, I was wrong. Two weeks later, probably when they realized I had taken back my money and turned them in for fraud, they called me at 7am and got my fiance. He told them never to call again and that they had been turned into the Attorney General. I thought it had worked until later that day I received a call with a voicemail from them, someone named Heather Gould called and told me that I was being sued because of defective checking account use and malicious intent (LOL I don't even have a regular checking account!!!) They said because they had me on recording saying I would pay them and I took it back it must have been malicious intent and that they were sending the sheriff to my workplace with another summons and a property appraiser would be out to my home to seize my property (LOL) They also called my Mom's house again and told her the sheriff's were on their way to arrest me. She told them I didn't live with her and she knew they were full of it and they hung up on her. So, I called them, and talked to a very rude Heather Gould who didn't like being called a scammer and hung up on me. Then I called back and requested a supervisor (yeah right, like they have one) and got the same lady (too good of a word for her) and she screamed at me that there was nothing else to speak about if I wasn't paying they were going to arrest me (LOL) I requested her to send me this supposed debt in writing and she just kept telling me that they were not a debt collection agency so she didn't have to send me anything. I also questioned her about the man who called impersonating the sheriff (I called the sheriff to verify it wasn't them and then checked my Mom's call log, sure enough same number...dumbasses!) She had the gall to tell me she wasn't him so she couldn't speak for his methods. So, I told her she was reported to the FTC, the FBI, and the Attournay General's office...big surprise she hung up on me and now they won't answer calls from my number (good I hope I pissed them off!) Needless to say, their number is blocked now. Apparently, payday loans sell the information of their customers and this is how they got my information... Evil or Very Mad

Very strange! I had a similar situation where someone "created" a bad credit loans situation, and almost scammed me into believing them!
