First of all, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not racist and there might be some things in this thread that might offend someone. I apologize if I hurt anyone's feeling but nothing was serious and everything that was said was to get a giggle and a response from the spammer. I was searching for a bull dog on recycler.com and found what I thought was an awesome dog. I responded to the for sale ad and got into the conversation below. Enjoy:

I am from the United States. We can be friends. I like you too. I think you have a good sense of humor. I understand you are broke, but why don't you take some time and put some of your energy into doing something good instead of trying to scam people out of money???

With all of the energy you put into trying to have people send you money for a dog that does not exist, you could be doing something productive, do something good in your name and your family's name, and start building a future. For example, look how good your English is. What is your native language? I am sure it is not English. With a little more practice, you could get a job teaching English somewhere.

P.S.: this forum is awesome. Glad I am not the only one messing with the spammers and scammers

If you responded to the ad thinking it was a legit dog offer at first, then chances are you used your real email/contact details. We highly advise you never bait with RL details. Even though scammers may seem far away, they can be closer than you think or have contacts near you.

You may have gotten some chuckles and wasted a bit of the scammer's time, we typically don't burn lads - tell them that we know they are scammers. All it does is educate them about baiters and any of our modalities that we may use.

And be careful of the racist tone of your baits that you post on Eater. You will find Eater doesn't tolerate it all.

I appreciate your feedback and will take notes. I am usually not a racist persona and I feel real bad about the stuff I wrote, but I did it for a giggle and really hope I don't offend anyone in the forums here, or anywhere else for the matter.

Unfortunately I did use a real email address but so far, no back lash. On the note about using real information, you are correct as it is scary what the scammers can do. When I was a little younger, I used to go into chat rooms on aol. There was a "girl" I started talking to in the chats. After talking with "her", I gave her my real email address and all of a sudden, I received over $20,000 in cashiers checks as an anonymous gift in the mail (remember, I never gave her my physical address, just my email). I took the checks to the bank, and they were really going to cash them for me. I had to tell the bank teller that I had no idea who gave the checks to me and asked her to please check again if they were real. The teller came back again ready to cash them. Being a little smarter, I told the teller there is no way anyone sent me $20,000 and I told her to just keep the checks. A few days later, I received a call from the FBI asking me how I got the checks and they told me that they were definitely fake.

After putting 2 and 2 together. I sent the "girl" an email telling her that I knew it was her who sent the checks and I just wanted to thank her. I told her I had a friend who worked at the bank and that they were able to cash the checks for me no problem and was able to do it so my name wasn't attached to the checks.

A day later, my cell phone rang and it was a man with what sounded like a heavy african accent telling me to send them the money or they would be coming to cut my head off. I was a lot younger at the time, so I kind of laughed it off and told him good luck getting on a boat over here. As I'm older now, it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do but at the time, fun to me.

It amazes me how long these scams have been around, how the scamming never stops, and how the scammers mature. It also amazes me that people seem to fall for these scams all the time

Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum and hopefully can learn some more tips on baiting and helping do my part in shutting down these fools.
