Please excuse me if this doesn't post quite right, this is my first posted work. Pretty straight scambait, with a few funny twists, and a little harsh language at the very end. Enjoy, and please, comments and constructive criticism are encouraged!!

I lost the original scam email, but it was the stereotypical 'stand in as beneficiary' email. My responses are in blue (hopefully).

Thank you very much for your respond. Let me start by reintroducing my self again, I am Sarah Zhong, Portfolio Manager for the Hua Xia Bank in China, I am getting in touch with you regarding the estate of a deceased client with an investment placed under our banks management 11 years ago.

I would respectfully request that you keep the contents of this mail confidential and respect the integrity of the information you come by as a result of this mail. I contact you independently and no one is informed of this communication.In 2001, the subject matter; first name James, then his last name Duval, came to our bank to engage in business discussions with our private banking division. He informed us that he had a financial portfolio of 37.363 million United States dollars, which he wished to have us invest on his behalf.

Based on my advice, we spun the money around various opportunities and made attractive margins for our first months of operation, the accrued profit and interest stood at this point at over 40 million United States Dollars. In mid 2007, he instructed that the principal sum ($37.363M) be liquidated because he needed to make an urgent investment requiring cash payments in Hong Kong. We got in touch with a specialist bank in Hong Kong the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) who agreed to receive this money for a fee and make cash available to Harrison. However Standard Chartered Bank just got in touch with us that this money has not been claimed. On further enquiries we found out that James died of a heart attack in Malaysia, which means he died intestate. He has no next of kin and the reason I am writing you.

What I propose is that since I have exclusive access to his file, you will be made the beneficiary of these funds. My bank will contact you informing you that money has been willed to you. On verification, which will be the details I make available to my bank, my bank will instruct SCB to make payments to you. You do not have to have known him. I know this might be a bit heavy for you but please trust me on this. For all your troubles I propose that we split the money in two equal half. The other option is that the money will revert back to the state.

Nobody is getting hurt; this is a lifetime opportunity for us.I hold the KEY to these funds, and as a Chinese National we see so much cash and funds being re-assigned daily. I would want us to keep communication for now strictly by the above email and also by telephone and fax numbers which I will send to you in my next communication even though my spoken English is not so good. Please, again, note I am a family woman; I have a husband and children. I send you this mail not without a measure of fear as to the consequences, but I know within me that nothing ventured is nothing gained and that success and riches never come easy or on a platter of gold. This is the one truth I have learned from my private banking clients. Do not betray my confidence.
If we can be of one accord, we should act swiftly on this. Please pardon my writing mistakes.

Please get back to me immediately and let me know if you are ready to move ahead with this transaction so i can provide you with more details on how we will receive the funds.

Well I sure would love to move forward with this transaction, but I first must know that it is entirely legal? I have a lengthy trial in the works already, and am certain that extra charges being pinned upon me would not have a positive effect on my current legal situation. We are going to take this matter on a step-by-step basis. However something that I must point out to you at this stage is that there is no wrong on your part. At the end of the day it is the Hua Xia Bank that will be contacting you to inform you that money has been left for you. You are not contacting the bank so you are doing absolutely nothing wrong or taking any risk. The only person who could have disputed this is long gone.
I am now in contact with a foreign online bank, I now intend that you open an account in your name in this foreign bank, you will have to open up a separate bank account(online/offshore account) in your name and you alone have to be the signatory. This bank wills serve as an intermediary between your bank and the SCB. The aim of the intermediary bank is to receive thefunds from the SCB and from there you can have the entire funds transferred bit by bit into any of your chosen bank account in your country. With this arrangement, even if there has to be a loop hole in what we have done so far the funds cannot be traced.

These special banks which I will introduce to you are specialized in this aspect. They assist business men alike who do not want the heavy load of tax to eat into their fund, they also assist government official in taking our funds out of our country without due attention from any authority. You must understand why there must be serious confidentiality about this whole process. Is there any way you can have the bank email me? As an inmate, I am not allowed to send unsolicited emails to anyone, but if the bank sends me an email, I will be able to reply without issue. Please understand that this is a temporary restriction, as soon as I get more funds, I should be able to secure my release from jail and have total freedom in my communications.

I have been discussing with the attorney who is preparing the necessary documents to make you the bonafide next of kin to the late James Duval. I really cannot afford the whole $3000 now because I have given him quite a lot of money for his services already. I can only afford to give him an extra $1800. Is there a way you can have the balance $1200 paid to him? We need these documents to be ready before next week.

The attorney has also requested for a residential address from you. Not your jail address but a residential one. Also, he has asked if you can have your signature scanned and sent so that he will help you open the offshore account with the bank since it can be done online.

I normally would have searched for another person to partner with me on this but for the fact that you are in jail, i have decided to do all within my power to ensure that you get part of this money only because you have been honest with me. I have been waiting nearly 4 years for this trial to start, I have no residential address other than my jail address. My home has been repossessed as a result of my incarceration, as all my funds have been earmarked for my legal defense fund. I don't see what the problem is with a jail address, prisoners have to get mail, too.

How much do you trust this attorney you are dealing with? He sounds to me like one of those scammer fellows, always asking for more money for this or that. I have an excellent attorney here who I am sure would be happy to obtain whatever documents we could need. I really don't have a spare $1200 sitting around, as a matter of fact, that is about what I had left after last month's fees and whatnot were paid.

And by the way, I think your attorney is giving you the shaft!

I have good news. I was finally able to convince the attorney to finalize the authorization of the documents and get the balance payment in a weeks time with an additional $300. By then, we should have gotten this money. So you do not have to send any money again. He said he will also start with the account opening.

There is a new development which posses as a last obstacle. I guess you will have to assist financially after all. The attorney in the process of opening the online account with Prudential Financial Trust bank in the UK was asked to make an initial deposit of $2000 as activation fee. Well, as I told you before, my funds are nearly tapped out by my defense attorney. It's not cheap putting up a defense for murder these days. If that scamming Nigerian son-of-a-bitch would have just minded his own business, I never would have shot him. Anyway, that's a subject for conversation once you conclude this deal and have a chance to chat. I'll see what I can do in line with putting the money together, but it won't happen until Monday at the very earliest, as my attorney doesn't work on Saturdays, and since he is the one in control of all my funds, I will have to be in contact with him to get any money. You can let your attorney know that I'm not at all happy with this new development nor the timing of it. Were it not for me being in jail, I would make him share the same fate as that Nigerian fellow.

Oh, i see! He or she(the nigerain) did get what he or she deserved. The attorney really has nothing to do with this account. As a matter of fact, I told him to help me open it in your name. He never had heard of the bank before i mentioned it to him so there is no possible way for him to be deceiving me. Please be carefull with these lottery winings because i have also lost some money to some fraudulent people. I was advised that if i did not play any lottery game by actually buying a ticket, then there is no possible way i will win something. I actually ended up transfering about 900$ to these fraudulent people but my luck was that I was advised immediately and so i alerted the authorities who aprehended them after a long investigation. But I never got my money back so i want you to be very careful. Like i said, if you did not play any lottery, there is no way you could have won anything. I am trying to contact friends to see who can loan me money urgently because i want this account opened as soon as possible so that we can conclude this project and i get my share of the money. I have alot of things to do with this money.

Well I took what you said into consideration, and decided to contact one of the guards here at the jail so he could put me in contact with my attorney, as I had advised him to go ahead and wire the necessary fees to this Microsoft organization. I guess the guard must have been listening to my conversation, because he started laughing at me, snickering about how I could be stupid enough to fall for one of those lottery scams, when he was walking me back to my cell after I left a message for my attorney. I don't care much for being laughed at, so I tripped him and beat his face into the concrete floor. It took two guards to get me off. I was in 'the hole' for the entire Easter holiday, they just let me out an hour ago. Good thing for me I used to snort a little coke with one of the night guards, so he let me get online to check my email since I missed the holiday.

I would love to help out, but you told me the other day that you had it taken care of. If my attorney gets my message in time and doesn't send these funds to the lottery and forward that information as I instructed last week, then I may have a few hundred dollars left in my defense fund. I will consult with him first thing. I do have one other option, but it would take a few days to accomplish. I worked for a great long time in the 'import' business, if you know what I mean. All my compensation was in cash, never taxed. I have quite a bit buried in garbage bags around my old farm. It would be strictly cash, and would have to be sent via the postal service, as ANY records showing money being wired will turn up an investigation with the FBI.

You actually said that you were trying to borrow the money from friends. Just out of curiosity, do you have some sort of undiagnosed memory issue? You seem to forget sometimes and repeat yourself often. I left a coded message for my attorney to give to a friend of mine. My friend is the only person I can trust that has enough brains to go recover my stash money. I can quite easily have the $2000 in 24 hours, but I will have to have an address to send it to. Forward me your address or the address of the attorney and we can have it to him inside of 2 days.

I am anxiously awaiting the address to send the funds to. Please, if I can have some more information on this bank? I have a substantial amount of money to deposit, and am looking for something outside of the US so I can avoid taxation. Seems like not much of an attorney to me. I shall hope to never meet him person to person when I am out, as I am not certain what I might do to him. He seems to be much of the delay here. And I believe you really should go visit a doctor for your memory issues. I will explain to you again that I am only allowed to RESPOND to emails here. I cannot send an email to anyone who has not sent an email to me. The guard explained that it is necessary to work that way to avoid prisoners sending threats to witnesses or jurors. I didn't ask for contact information of the bank, I asked for the address to send this $2000 to. I have a stash of US cash buried about one of my old farms, one that the FBI is not watching to my knowledge. My friend on the outside has been working on my escape plan, but he has been advised by my attorney now to go dig up some of my money and prepare it to be shipped to the bank or the attorney. I give you due credit. Your constant forgetting of details has nothing to do with being open. And I don't get upset easily, I lash out at stupidity easily. Speaking of stupidity, I asked for the mailing address of the attorney or the bank, so I could have a package with the cash in it delivered. I can't just walk up to the warden and have him western union you some money, you fucking dolt. My attorney cannot be involved in it, either, as he is still indictable if he is committing illegal acts, like laundering money. And my only friend in the world, who will be digging the money up, isn't ABOUT to go to western union and put his name on paperwork, as he is a fugitive from the FBI. Great beginning!!! Real creativity there.

One criticism: We generally discourage baiters from "burning" the mugu at the end of the bait (I.E. letting him know you are a baiter). This might educate a mugu to better recognize a baiter at a later time. Better solution: leave him wondering whether you were a real victim who was just a bit uncooperative! He can lie awake at night pondering that question.

Also: don't hesitate to introduce other characters into a bait. The modality you have is GENIUS but you can really complicate it if the warden of the prison, a guard, or other inmates, start getting involved. Each character will need his/her own e-mail address, will have his/her own agenda (which is going to conflict with other characters' agendas) and his/her unique psychological disorders <G>.
