WTF? Originating IP seems to be from Turkey. And the site they "pulled" my name from is one I never used. And I finally got a job thank you.

You left your resume out there on a job search site, most likely. As for the news headline, I have seen an increase in lads using "email this page" buttons on news articles to send their formats out lately. I guess that way they don't have to worry about their account being shut down for spamming.

All he needs is your RL name and email address from the interwebs. Then it's just a shot in the dark if your looking for a job or not. In today's economy that's not as much of a shot in the dark.

but it's known, that people respond more often to mails, which address them directly than emails, which are sent without any personalized info.

even if there is a response rate of 1%, and 9 of 10 drop it after a few mails, it would be a greater success than the standard mails.

I have received the same types of emails. For a few of them I've copied (and replaced legit personal info) them to one of my baiting accounts and replied. I am not sure if the scammers were lazy, if I had bad luck, or if they are keeping track of who they contact. But in every case I have never received a response.

same here^. same with the hotel scam, i cant seem to get near the response as the classic advance fee ones

I have been getting more of these job scam emails and have had a few back and forths with someone offering jobs in Canada at hotels (Pan P acific). Of course they are being sent from some obscure yahoo address which raises some suspicion.
