I found this in the spam folder of one of my real email accounts. I checked the WU site and it said the transfer was ready for pickup.

This doesn't make sense because they either really fronted $4500, and the 'victim' could just take it, or they wired a much smaller amount and the victim will know they're full of it right away. What am I missing?

This is actually pretty common and very dangerous for a potential victim. The WU site will not tell you how much the transfer is. It's actually just a few bucks. It's kind of like an ATM scam. The lad tells the victim they have to pay a few usually a couple hundred bucks to get the full details to claim the money. It's very convincing to an unknowing victim since the MTCN is live.

Find a mod online and pm them the details in the future so it can be felt with.

I haven't seen this one before. You'd think a victim would twig when the $4500 turned out to be just a few bucks, so I didn't get what this clown was trying to do.

They wouldn't know it wasn't $4500 until after they paid the fees. Like an ATM card or lottery scam just a little more convincing because the victim can go online and see that there has been a transfer made.
