Windy: I'd definitely buy a computer withh a slap button.

Foo: I took a class in high school that REQUIRED PhotoShop and thus learned it and really enjoyed using it, but when I found GIMP it couldn't do a lot of things that I could do in PhotoShop. GIMP is just too limited on what it can do.

I agree with foo, buying a separate PC just for baiting is unnecessary.

What price range do you consider cheap?

Also, if you want to buy photoshop legally, it's going to cost you. Adobe Photoshop CS5 is going for $700.00. Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended goes for $1,000.00. Not only is PS expensive but it has a steep learning curve.

I am aware some people just use the term photoshop for any photo editor. People say GIMP here because GIMP is free. I believe you get what you pay for. If I remember right, Jasc Paint Shop Pro was pretty good and was under a $100.00.

I used PS CS4 extended and I doubt I used any of the extended parts of it. Now, so far I am much happier with PS CS5. The main upgrade for me is I can load animated gifs without having to import them first.

Before spending money on PS I would see if you like GIMP or if GIMP does everything you want it to do for you. If not there are other free photo editors, however I hear GIMP is as close as you can come to PS for free.

More fun then an average editor but you are limited as to what you can do with it.

Search around until you are comfortable with something. If you have never use Adobe Photoshop then I wouldn't buy it. It's not the type of software you can teach yourself. Well, not with loads of headaches.

I guess the bottom line is you asked for cheap, and photoshop is not.

When you consider that the lads in Africa use second hand refurbished computers usually donated by well meaning Aid agencies, that get sold to enterprising entrepenurs, that then get installed in net cafes, using Yahoo systems due to Yahoo taking the lead in installing all internet services thoughout Africa, as microsoft failed to sell their systems

you could get away with a Sinclair ZX and still bait sucessfully

Quite frankly, techno nerdism as far as baiting goes leaves me wondering just what the person is about.

It isn't what system, what GHz, ram, whatever you have

it is how good are you are at convincing someone on the other side of the screen that you are serious

Don't come in here telling me that you have a 5.6Mghz 5gb ram double run triple replay overdrive motherboard with 500gig cooling capacity, without showing that you have got a bank account closed

I don't give a rats arse about what system you have, show me the results

As Scissors said, you can use public libraries, where ever to bait from

Oh, yes, I agree. I use a 10" pink Dell netbook for everything and only run free programs.

Aren't we going a bit off the topic here?

I've got two approaches on this:
I'm currently using Oracle VirtualBox to set up macines. It works fine for me, but it does tend to eat a lot of resources from the host, like eating up all available processor time. But then again, it seems to yield the resources to native programs, running on the host machine. The beauty of this is that you can install the virtual machine and copy it. That's a great advantage if a VM gets a problem - Just delete it and use another one Smile

The other approach is only in the planning, but I do have some old hardware sitting around - And yes I know that an old 400MHz machine doesn't sound of much and it might be slower, but comes at my favourite price: $0 Exclamation

So it might be worth asking around by your friends and family to see if anybody has an old machine just sitting there. It might need a larger harddisk and some more RAM, but that's still a small investment.
