I've got a bait that just keeps on giving. It's pushing 3 years since I first started it and although my original lad is long gone I keep having new ones pop up. I don't know if my information is being sold, traded, or stolen but every few months I'll hear from a brand-new lad who is fully apprised about my situation. It's a mystery, but it's fun because I don't have to waste any time creating trust or building a backstory. These guys know all my details already: that I'm a filthy rich widow who has already paid well over $200,000.

A new lad popped up a few weeks ago. At his suggestion I'm flying to Africa on Friday to conclude this business once and for all. My plan is to get him to go on safari to meet me. He certainly should, but lads are lazy. Wink

Right now all he can talk about is the $2400 he wants for the documents we'll need. I asked him what presents I could bring him, all he said was "I will not dictate what you should give me as an appreciation, but when we meet, you can give me anything good to you." When I asked him how much cash I should bring he ignored the question. Shocked

I finally told him I would carry $20K in cash and another $20K in travelers checks, and that I was bringing him a high-end laptop and a Rolex. He didn't comment. The jerk is still focused only on the stupid $2400. Evil or Very Mad

So I sent it to him. But it seems he had a small problem collecting it today. (Go figure.) But a rival lad had no problem chopping it from under him. I wrote him as the rival lad and told him to keeeeepppp ooooooffffff my character, and taunted him for his stupidity in not being able to collect the money. I'm waiting to see what he has to say about that tomorrow. Wink

He's whining about me paying for his safari. I've decided he's not motivated enough, I need to light a fire under his lazy butt. So my character just wrote him this:

I'm sorry you won't be able to meet me at the airport but Mr. Uchenna explained the situation to me and I completely understand. That's fine, he already had my flight information from you and he has agreed to come see me. Anyway there's nothing to be concerned about with the legal fees, I have enough cash with me to take care of that with him when I see him this weekend.

I'm sure he'll flip out when he reads that but I'm prepared. I had sent an email from my fake lad to my character, which I will forward to the lad when he freaks:

I am James Uchenna, director of foreign contracts for Governor Charles Soludo at the Central Bank of Nigeria.I have been workign with Mr. John Ab0le to settle the contract for your husband Ronald (may God rest his soul Amen) and he has explain to me that you are coming to Africa to finally settle this affairs.

Mr. Ab0le will not be able to see you when you arrive because he has been call away to a very important meeting in Abuja,at the High Court.. However there is no cuase for worry, I will personaly handle this transactions with you instead of Mr. Ab0le. I will meet you on Saturday when I will arrive at Parakou and directly go to the 5imba 5afari Camp to see you. I will have all the documents that Mr. Ab0le hasgotten for you. Please be adviced that there will be some fees for the lawyer to be pay at that time because everything must be change from the name of your husband to your. I will detail these for you when I see you at the camp and you can pay with cash to me Saturday.

Mr. Ab0le is very embarased that he cannot see you but he his a busy man.But you have not a thing to worry, I will handle the last of this transaction totaly risky-free to make sure your payment is pay promply.

So, will he or won't he? If he doesn't make the effort to get there first, his rival will get my money. He can't afford to dawdle, if he wants my $40K and the laptop and Rolex he has to move his sorry butt and get to the Niamey airport Friday afternoon. Fingers are crossed...

The panic generated when a lad thinks he's going to be chopped is a great incentive. I am often surprised by a lads ability to adapt to the situation. See where he'll go and what new excuse or plot line he wants to take.

If it's all too hard he'll cave in. I'm putting money he'll go with default lad logic:

'Mr.Uchenna is not real and will steal your money. I am real and you must trust me. Beware of scammers on the net.'

Well, he has the option of flying to Niamey to meet you, too. Or a special shuttle can meet him in Cotonou.

In my limited experience, lads get really twisted when the dolla-chopper is smoother and more articulate, and sends highbrow taunts through forwarded emails. This includes snarky snipes at the lad's level of education, his work habits, and threats of sacking if the chopper is pretending to be his "boss." Phili0s the bike-insurance guy from my sig was my first choppee and this modality got him seriously frothed. I only wish I'd known about safaris at that point.

Oh what fun! Good luck with the safari but I'll be surprised if he goes - never underestimate how lazy and arrogant these boys are - honestly if you were standing six feet away holding a golden box full of diamond rolexes they'd still try to bully you into walking over to them with it. I suppose its a bit of a relief - if they weren't so so lazy more people may get caught out.

I don't know, I'm starting to think he won't travel. This truly is a lazy lad, and not a very bright one. He can't see the big picture. He has ignored all my comments about taking bundles of cash with me, he ignored my comments about meeting his assistant this weekend, all he keeps harping about is the $2400. He's not a chess player, he can't anticipate the following move. Confused

His email to Doc at the camp is definitely not encouraging.

Anyway, I was going to hold off writing this morning but I decided to try to goose this along a little. He needs to be more concerned about his rival, and he also needs to be put on the defensive. He wrote me two emails late last night, I sent two separate replies as would a normal victim working her way through the inbox. In part:

@bohigal, I've never tried the educated/articulate chopper modality. I'm going to have to give that a go in my next bait, I can see how lording it over the lad could rub salt in the wound. I've always played it as an abusive, insulting lad writing in Pidgin. Time for a change. Wink

With a little help (well, a lot of help, really Wink

) from a friend, my character has just phoned the lad from the airport before boarding her flight to Paris. The lad sounded almost apoplectic. But underlying all his insistence that he will meet me is the continued demand for money for the documents. But I sent that money. It's not my fault if another lad chopped it. I know nothing about all that. All I know is I did my part.

My mistake in this bait was scheduling a layover in Paris. That leaves him time to badger me. So I think I'm going to rebook my flight to Niger to arrive Thursday....

Feel free to push him, Doc. He needs it.
