Help! Need your advice

Hi everyone, I am hoping you can help.

I posted this in general chat because this doesn't involve baiting but it does involve a scam. My mother met someone a british (living in america) import/exporter currently in Nigeria. They talked a bit and conversation soon went from tagged to IM (yahoo i think) and then onto phone. Unfortunately, I was not informed of the situation until way too late. Anyway...as it turns out, her "love" was having health issues while on the phone to her...he told her he was going to the hospital...en route, the cab got into an accident where the driver and the guy's agent both died...he survived and was taken to hospital where my mom was sent an email by a dr (using a yahoo account...mm hmm) saying her info was in his diary and she was the only known contact for him.

At this point I informed her that it was a nigerian scam (knowing the next step would be to ask her for money) and sure enough the doc called her and basically told her that the man's life was in her hands.

She called them out on the nigerian scam and that's where it was last left (the doc claimed phone problems and said he would send her an email)...

Anyway.... what I need to know is.... what are we up against now that these guys have my mother's actual cell AND home phone number (and i just found out he also has her home address) ? What can I advise her to do to prevent any serious problems? I want this to die down without trouble.

She was not trying to scambait him...she was quite sad at the idea that there wasn't someone in love with her as she had thought.

I don't know what to do.

Don't panic mate, just cut all contact with the scammer. If he calls, ignore him or hang up and erase his emails without responding and he'll eventually give up after lots of moaning and begging. He isnt going to get on a plane to come and see you so dont worry, these guys get this a lot.
Get your mum to speak to the local police if she is still worries

Hi and welcome ldndude. I'm happy you were able to stop the scam in time. I wouldn't worry too much about him having private info on your mother. Maybe he will try once or twice to call her, if she puts him off, says she knows about him being a scammer, he will probably move along pretty quickly. He definitely won't take a plane to visit her.

Agreed. They're used to victims realising it's a scam. It's being baited that upsets them.

I am getting her out of communicating any further.... she has a chance to exit smoothly...she got a letter from the 'doctor' asking again if the man was important to her because he cannot be treated without any money, so I just had her respond with "no, sorry." and just ignore any further contact.

Incidentally...thank you for having this website as she is currently sifting through the stories here (especially the love section) and i think she is getting addicted to the shock value of just how elaborate some of these scams are....

so keep up the good work Smile

(by the way...is there any links between the pictures in the trophy room and the stories behind them? I am DYING to know what is up with the guy pouring milk on the other guy)

Glad to hear your mom has been receptive to advice and is getting away
from this scumbag.
