I'm a Ruby on Rails (it's a Web framework, http://www.rubyonrails.org) Web developer.

I realize that there are a few Web services for our pets (M7CN S3cure, [email protected] Direct) but none of these allow you to host it yourself. So obviously, us baiters run the risk of some lads discovering what these services actually are.

This problem would be solved because you can host the app yourself, on your own domain. Of course, you could set up a public one.

Such a thing would be fairly easy for me to build, but it may take some time as I currently have other (paid) work to complete - baiting is just a hobby for me. Smile

There are a few such useful tools that have appeared over time, but the authors moved on - a source code archive would be useful for baiter tools, especially if they were platform agnostic so could be easily rebranded and dotted around. I'd like to see variants of mySAf3image.com, m7CNsecure, parceldir3ct, etc but also some useful simple regex tools to parse email headers for originating IP addresses (with a webservice lookup?) etc.

I've heard of Ruby on Rails - is it as ubiquitous as php? The plus of php is that it is so widely supported that even most free hosts support it (unlike ASP for instance)

No. But it is rapidly growing in popularity among serious techies as a powerful yet simple framework for Web apps.

The problem will be to find a free host that supports RoR.
