In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving several weeks earlier than the Americans as our crops need to be harvested sooner. And then again we always seem to be further ahead in most things compared to our southern neighbours.
But this year the Americans outdid all of us with their Alaskan Governor - the infamous Sarah Palin.
It is the custom in the States for the President and some governors to pardon a turkey for each Thanksgiving and thereby make citizens feel less guilty about eating one. A quaint custom but fun nonetheless. So this year Sarah (still craving the media spotlight) decided to go to a turkey farm to pardon an Alaskan turkey. To characterize this woman as "oblivious" would be an understatement

@Homer Fong, thank you for the reminder. At one point that was hailed as the funniest line in TV history.
I had a quiet but busy day. We went to a church service, then out to dinner, as we had no invitations or guests. Then we went to see "Bolt" which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We didn't enjoy the ticket price, however. As it was a holiday, the theater did not have early-seating discounts or senior discounts, and we had to pay $8.50 each.  |
