I wish there were an organization that could put public service announcements on tv and radio warning about scams. Sadly they would probably run them late at night when everyone is sleeping. Sad

Yes, but late night is when a lot of people down on their luck are up. In my area Bankruptcy attorneys would rather run their ads late at night, they get a better response.

I would suspect a lot of vics are down on their luck financially or emotionally so late night might not be too bad!

I did see a tv commercial in my viewing area warning people about scammers.

They showed a scammer on a bus offering a passenger millions if they would send a small fee.
The point was if you would not believe this in person, then don't believe it on the internet.

I wish I could recall more about the ad.

There was a bit about advance fees for renting flats on the local news tonight.
Does help that her dad is the reporter.
The poor lass no only lost her money but her ID is being used by fraudsters

They might air the PSAs during daytime TV, like when Judge Judy or People's Court is on -- that's when all the tech schools and disability attorneys have their ads. Theory being, I suppose, that anyone watching TV at that time is either unemployed or disabled.

The worst attitude I encountered was from one of my oldest friends. He read one of those articles and said "they shouldn't have been so naive"

Karma has its way though. A few months later he responded to an email from trademe (a NZ version of ebay) which required him to log in and it turned out to be a phishing email (fortunately they listed something and that's when he found out he had been stupid)

I gave him his own lecture about being naive and I think he got the point.

Sometimes the victim is partially to blame, but I'd never say any of them deserved it.

The thing with public service ads is; if you were to warn people about every way they could mess their life up, then you'd need more hours in the day. People are inherently stupid/gullible, some will even be worse off for knowing about scams. In that they'll let their defenses down because they are so clued up.

I'm not sure where the blame eventually lies - it's probably somewhere political - but the lads are where i'm directing my contempt and hatred.

People may be greedy, naive, or simply clueless, but that doesn't give the scammers carte blanche to take advantage of that. Evil or Very Mad
