I dont get them very often, thank goodness.
It took me ages to associate the funny way words slipped around when reading with the headache I'd get several hours later.
I take paracetamol with caffeine in to help stop them getting bad.
I've never figured the triggers for me yet. |

Nurofen does nothing for me. |
I found that if you find something that does ease the misery, you have to strike as soon as you feel it coming on. If you wait until the flashing has gone it's too late. You'd better dive for cover.
Then, I suppose if we all have different triggers, it stands to reason that any remedy will be different too. Since I had surgery it's nowhere near as bad as it was. I can work through it. |

Wifey takes Imitrex and Relpax then a hot compress in a quiet, darkened room.
Me, on the other hand, I have an unlimited supply of hydrocodone and a limited 'script of oxycodone. Since the promotion, I haven't had to take any.....maybe it was just stress. |

I am a fairly frequent migraine sufferer.
Over-the-counter drugs don't help at all. Imitrex is good, but now I use maxalt. It dissolves quickly in the mouth and within an hour it is gone or almost gone. But the best thing about maxalt is that you don't have to take it at the onset. It can be a full-blown migraine by time I take it, and it still takes care of it.
I don't know where you are, but in Europe they have Zomeg, which is also good.
My triggers are certain foods, alcohol, stress, lack of sleep. |

@Windypops - you might be right. My missus told me last night that migraines can cause your gut to stop working. Hence, if you take tablet medication a while after the symptoms have arrived, they may have no effect!
Mind you, my missus is no doctor.... |
