I got a little bored yesterday as the forum was quiet, so I decided to try something new. I know - let's sign up to a dating site as a woman and see if I can get a love scammer. I registered and waited for about 12 hours and got nothing. Then I changed my "About Me" section to say "I'm actually only 14 but ...." and got about 80 replies in about 2 hours. They sent me a few very indecent photos.

My question - Is baiting these types something that ever happens, and if so, is it possible to nail the dirty bastards?

They bait perverts and I believe you have to be vetted if you want to be a member of their site.

Also you can check out the 'To Catch A Predator' series on msnbc.com with Chris Hanson. It's a real eye opener to watch these sicko's get busted.

I'm not sure how thoroughly they look at the regular members who are just volunteers. As I understand it, the actual people that are in contact with those monsters, however, undergo a deep background check and extensive training - A few folks from here were involved there; it's a different world, and not a site where people can just wander in and start doing chats.

I've actually just been to look at the site and it seems like a 419eater on steroids. I love my scam baiting and I fancy possibly taking it a step further, but I'm not sure how I would deal with a 50 year old wanting to come around and "visit" my 14 year old persona. I'm scared of nothing but these guys sicken me.

PS Thanks NurseNasty - I have actually watched that program and the pathetic perverts that have turned up. They turned my stomach.

I'd encourage you to contact law enforcement instead of messing around with this person. Sites are often monitored by LEO, and you don't want them being confused as to your intentions. Molesters also pose as underage children in attempts to befriend real children.

That Hansen Files 'To Catch a Predator' series is great, it really gives you a kick to see those filthy bastards humiliated and pinched. The only thing that disturbs me is how many of them seem to be out there. As a parent, it could easily make you tend toward overprotectiveness. The people at PJ have much stronger stomachs than I, and I take my hat off to 'em.

I agree fully.

This is a very grey area you are in. Pass on all info you may have to your local law enforcement agency at once and walk away from that profile you created now!!!!!

Agreed, I'm glad someone is dealing with them but at the same time glad it isn't me. I'll stick to scammers, in fact in comparision I feel well-disposed towards them but I'm sure that feeling will erode very quickly.

Yes please pass the information along to LEO. In my jurisdiction the police have a special unit set up just to deal with such people. I'd explain to them why you did it so they don't think you have some bad motive.

As for those people, back in the day I prosecuted some of them. There was nothing more satisfying than seeing them taken out of the court room in shackles to start a stint in prison. It is true they don't do well in prison once their crime comes to light. Oddly there is some code among prisoners that you just don't cross THAT line. Sure, murder and rape can be understood, but not child molestation.

Please let local law enforcement know about this.
