Sorry if this is old news, I'm new here so I did a search on the forums but didn't come up with anything.

But I came across this report (posted on slashdot) published by the US Internet Crime Complaint Center on internet fraud: http://www.ic3.gov/media/annualreport/2007_IC3Report.pdf

Reported internet fraud cost America $240 million last year. Interestingly the USA and UK together accounted for 78.5% of reported internet fraud compared to 5.7% for Nigeria. And 419 scams only accounted for 1.1% of reports. It makes for interesting reading.
