It is sad that the victim is being criminally charged, when the real criminals so rarely are. But, if she already ran into trouble once and chose to continue trying to deposit checks then maybe this is the wakeup call she needs. |

I think it's just a summons, she'll probably just get a warning from the judge and let off. Maybe some sort of suspended sentence. |

^^You are probably correct, I have worked with the Department of Corrections before and it really takes someone to commit the same crime three times before they get any kind of jail time. |

The victim has to pay a lot of money to lawyers to get the charges
dropped or reduced, which acts like a heavy fine.
We had a guy in San Francisco who unknowingly deposited one of these
fake checks and he was charged initially with bank robbery. |

There is a bank in Texas that has had so many Nigerian checks pass through them they now have a policy where a manager greets you as you queue up in line with the pretense of pre-approving your check/deposit. They have stopped hundreds of fake checks this way. They also have a sign posted about fake foreign checks. |
