Yahoo IM scammers???

Has anyone encountered a scammer who operates out of Yahoo IM?
The story as I got it was:
The guy started talking to him in YIM, spent a couple of months sucking him in then asked him to cash some checks for him that he couldn't get cashed in Ghana(?)
Apparently his spiel was that he was stuck in this (G) country and trying to get home but had no money.
The guy didn't give me his YIM ID but I can probably get it.

Maybe someone can do something with them?

I left them large so they are easier to read. I don't know about the email and password??

Absolutley scam. I hope he hasn't cashed the cheques Sad

Try and get him to drop the scammer asap.Burn them, eat them, give to the cops just don't bank them. If he does they will eventaully bounce and your friend will have to pay the money back if may also be charged.

He got hit for about $500 plus fees.
They seem to think the cops are gonna do somethin', I told him that is very unlikely that they will ever find anything.
I'd like to see someone play the guy.
I'm supposed to see him tomorrow night to fix his Dell (ugh) so I should be able to get the guys Yahoo ID. Maybe someone will have time to take him for a ride. I just don't have the time right now and not nearly enough experience at this.

There are many scammers who operate in IMs. And all the usual scams. Usually checks and rental. Love scams are big in IM also.

The cops can't do anything especially if your friend sent the money by Western Union or Moneygram. There would be no traceability and names are fake.

That's what I forgot, he cashed a couple of checks but never sent it out. He did spend a !00 of it so he'll only be down under 200 by time he pays the fees.
