I suppose this is possible. Most email providers ask for the answer to a secret question. I suppose if someone could bait a scammer into providing the answer, you could hijack their email account, providing us with a unique insight to the workings of scams like these.

Has this ever been done?

Account hijacking is illegal, no matter how it's done. Illegal topics are not discussed on Eater, nor does Eater condone such activities.
