I've been baiting an romance lad for a couple of months and have had a really fun time jerking his chain, but alas all good things must come to an end. I was so bored with him constantly making up new reasons for me to go to Western Union and he just would not cooperate and do anything I asked of him. So I confessed I'd been unfaithful to him with another lad and broke our engagement.

After a few weepy emails threatening suicide and not finding any sympathy on my end he supposedly ends up in the hospital (he's supposed to be an American stranded in Poland, but his IP is Lagos, Nigeria) and today he sends me this:

I want to tell you, that I feel a little better. The doctor who is taking care of me is very, very nice. He is here for couple years from Nigeria. When I hapen to tell him about my problem, he said that he will halp me to pay off the hotel and hosital bill. He just asked if in turn I could ask you to do him a favor and help to get his son to USA, so he could attend college there.
He doesn'rt ask about help in paying for the college, just help in getting the boy over to USA. The boy is presently sill in Nigeria. He is very bright and would be a waste if he didn't finish his college degree in USA and got himself a good job.
Sweetheat, would you be willing to help out with this? There no financial matters involved with that on your part. Just the paperwork and you are so good with that. Honey I really count on your help with that.

So what is he up to now? What is it that he really wants? Is HE the college kid, do ya think? How would you respond?

I would ask him why the Polish doctor has a son in Nigeria. Sounds like he is looking for other ways to get $$. YOu could also tell him to have the doctor email you and see if they have the same IP.

He still wants to play... but paper work is coming your way. That is bad. Suggest you nip in with some forms of your own and get him working on VISA applications etc.

Your lad may be trying to find out how much you are willing to do. It is similar to them asking for personal details in the beginning. If you freely give the information then they know you may be an excellent target. Eventually there will be some type of request for help with payment of fees, acceptance of a trunk or package, a check scam, etc..

One possibility is telling the lad you work for an organization that gives out scholarships to gifted international students in need. There is an immediate cash payment for travel expenses and to buy a computer. They need to fill out applications and take some tests. You will almost be able to guarantee awarding of the scholarship since you are on the selection committee. If awarded the scholarship, you will be able to fast track their student visa.

Another approach is to confess to being an illegal alien. You are afraid of becoming involved in any type of immigration situation because of your status. Accepting or sending any type of immigration related form may trigger an investigation because of government monitoring of e-mail messages for key words related to terrorists or illegal aliens.

Ask for pictures and more details about the student and his father. Ask a lot of questions about things such as area of study, possible colleges, favorite subjects, and hobbies.

Woo hoo! <BIG hugs!!> This will be soooo much better than his crappy romance stuff. I was sick of that. This is gonna be fun!

My persona just so happens to have a large trust fund and a parent who owns a Fortune 500 company! What a deal I have for this lad. Not only can I offer him a scholarship and sponsor him in an MBA program, but offer him an internship as well. But I'll need more personal information than even his mother or wife knows. Oh and he'll have to write essays!!
