I should have known better. Guy in Minnesota (ostensibly) posts a hockey goalie facemask for sale. I bid, and then a brand new bidder bumps my bid up. I win the item, get the tracking number, and wait. And wait. Tracking information still just says "Billing Information Received". Then I notice that my seller has noted the weight of the package as 1 lb, meaning he paid $5.50 for the shipping label and is sitting on $115 of my money. I open a dispute and quickly find that my seller's PayPal account is inactive. Standard "list, collect and run" scam
PayPal's sorting it out now. I'm pretty sure I'll get my money back given all the fishy stuff about this transaction; I just wish I'd seen it sooner. |

Nothing you can do about that. Paypal insurance will cover this (do they charge a handling fee / excess?) |

The one tied to the PayPal account is . His address is:
It's probably either been dumped or was phished.
Anyway, I reviewed PayPal's Buyer Protection and for such a relatively small amount, from an eBay transaction paid with PayPal, I should be good. The program covers practically all eBay transactions for tangible items (except for contraband) for at least $200. It's just an inconvenience not to have that money available while they sort this out. |

Well, PayPal decided in my favor. They got the $115 back and it'll go back into my account sometime this week. |

Good for you, Sum Yun Gai!
You can't be too careful nowadays with some of the slithering, slippery eels who abound.

Under a different name, I had a scammer who wanted to buy a "Red Baron" fly swatter from me. The better half and I laughed ourselves almost senseless.
"The Red Baron" is an ordinary fly swatter, and I offered it up to my pal for what I considered to be a very reasonable $5.99, making sure that I stressed it was worth more and that he was getting a deal on it.
I knocked up a photo of "The Red Baron" and included a verbose description of it.
He wrote back. "I need one of your flying swatters. How do I pay for it?" |
