My boss is fixated on me producing an HTML e-mail with a fixed-width table which has a red border around it. I have tried (using Lotus Notes) to build this; it worked. But when I send it to anyone else, the border vanishes and the table isn't fixed width - it's spread across the screen.
If anyone has any ideas, it will stop me |

Use notepad and a browser to test the HTML. If that works, it is Notes that is screwing you up.
Also try an embedded CSS approach as an alternative. e.g.
Code: |
<style>
#informationblock {
background-color: white;
border-color: #red;
border-style: solid;
border-width: 3pt;
font-size: 12pt;
padding: 15px 15px 15px 15px;
}
</style>
<div id="informationblock>
<p>blah></p>
</div>
|
This is a direct cut and paste from one of my CSS websites so doesn't do the width control but that is easy to add in later.
Hope this helps!
PS - using HTML in emails is not the best idea - a lot of email virus scanners will turn off the images to stop image spyware. Tell your boss he is likely to create a worse impression with HTML than with in line text.
PPS - If all else fails, render the image as a JPEG and send that! |

Now if you use MS-outlook and have that set to plain text, you can send all you want, but it will never work |

I've told him, but he's insistent. (In a week when we get complaints, he'll ask me why I didn't warn him. ) Then again, I'm leaving in a month, so I won't have to put up with this much longer Thanks for your help, I shall try it. |

Don't waste your time! Knowing my boss, he would take great pleasure in getting the attention. If anyone were to bait him, he'd find some way to spin it as a good thing...
In the great checklist of Types of Boss, I have
#12 Mr. 'LOOK AT ME', closely linked to:
#5 Mr. 'It's All About My Vision'
Which combine to make a heck of a problem when trying to work independently, or when there's a flaw in implementing his Vision (such as not being able to make a red border around an e-mail).
Thankyou for your help, which I tried in Lotus. Lotus didn't like it. What I eventually did was create nested tables - one around the outside, with a border, and the actual content in a table inside that with borders turned off. Worked beautifully |
