I'm massive lurker here - but I decided it was time to register and join the fray...so to speak.

I've been chatted-up by someone on singlesnet.com. The profile mentioned she was from Australia, but our preliminary chat revealed she was from Ghana. The lightbulb went off immediately.

me: I do a lot of things, honestly. Currently, I work at a nuclear test site where we make enriched urainium.

You tell us. How can we tell what her intentions are from that conversation? If her conversation repeats, maybe she hit the send button twice. What would a chatbot be use for in this case? You were right to lie because as we all know, everybody in Ghana is a scammer. (sarcasm)

Going by what you say about her profile on the dating site I'd say there's a 90% chance it's a scammer. You can add another 9% if she's got pics that look like a supermodel or porn star. I've chatted to a dozen such ladettes that have myseriously relocated to West Africa from elsewhere in the world in the past year or so and not one of them has turned out genuine.

On the off chance that she is though, you might want to play it straight for a few days though, and wait to see if when a plea for some cash via Western Union is forthcoming. In the meantime, by all means ask her for pics, if she's got a webcam and whether she'd like to voice chat. That's the sort of thing someone interested in dating her would ask anyway, so it's not like you'd be putting her out.

Also, if you're going to lie to her, do it properly. When baiting scammers you want to put across a persona that's as deeply unattractive as possible, so be an utter creep. Genuine people are going to get turned off by this, cut their losses and run pretty quickly. However it's a positive come-on to the scammers as their ideal prey is the socially inept.
