tritium, I am in the process of resurrecting/continuing this bait. So far, the lad has not responded. Perhaps I was a bit too brusque with him (my last email in the bait) so I have tried to be more polite in another email to him.

If I can resurrect the bait, I will "travel" back to Brussels.

Virus name: Downloader.Trojan

Anyone else with the same problem?

N419, I've not received that error; neither from the current host server nor from the original host server.

I can send it to you from the CD on which it is copied. PM with email that accept an approx. 5 Mbyte message or alternatively I can FTP up to a server, for your viewing pleasure.

hmm this is interesting, I got similar warnings today although not while reading that bait, think I was on collegehumor.com at the time, it seemed to be in conjunction with the installation of a shitload of spyware onto my computer, still trying to get rid of it all atm Mad

Yech, spyware. ZoneAlarm + Norton Antivirus does a great job for me. Every fornight, I scan with AdAware and Spybot to clean up any tracking cookies and possible spyware. I also don't visit "adult" sites which are notorious for spyware and turn off cookies unless absolutely necessary.

I already had Norton + adaware installed, I've got zonealarm now so hopefully that should stop anymore being installed! I still have to uninstall loads of the stuff though, its all hidden in the system registry which is a right pain in the arse! Sad

Try spybot and AdAware for cleanup. If it is too bad, you may want to back up important data and then wipe the drive and reinstall everything. While that seems drastic, a clean slate may be the best way to go.

I think I've managed to get rid of most of it now, although it took awhile! Hopefully won't need to wipe everything!

I'm currently in Leamington Spa (I go to Warwick Uni) but originally from Reading which is where my family is!

Okay, this guy is a real tosser.

He was telephoned by a colleague in Brussels. The colleague waited for the line to picked up and then hung up. When I slapped the upper-level lad for not answering his phone call and then threating to work with the lower-level lad, here is the response I got (this morning)-

Hi,

you never seams serious about this transaction the telephone number you gave was fake,you call but one's and i can hear you clearly and i believe you can hear me too but you cut the line off and you never try to call again and your own number does not exist and the shipment is still here and more demo rage has been accumulated on it the bill you have to pay now is 18,200Eros,i do not no about any Mr White Bright if you like go and pay your Money to the wrong person it's not my problem.

I am very serious about this transaction. Everytime I call your number is engaged or you are not answering me. I call you and you pick up mobile but you do not say anything. I do not have time to play these games. I am one doctor who is saving lives. The EURO 18 200 fee is not a worry. I control all the money in my hospital.

I will book my flight to Brussels to see you with the fee. Tomorrow, I will let you know flight arrangements.

I notice some people here were having some difficulties becuase of downloader.trojan I have had the unfortunate experiance of dealing with this worm, I have noticed it seems to be a modified version of the original wormas it typically goes to retrieve another worm called backdoor.berbew. Just a reminder to keep those virus scanners updated.
