Chapter 5, In which Boniface make at least three trips to the Western Union office
Sid is a bad man

Subject: This is what we should do

Dear Sid,

Thank you for your response and we are sorry for all
you have gone through in helping us. We would not want
anything to make you feel bad. [fat chance of that!]

I have been making enquiry on what it would cost me to
get my traveling documents ready and fly down to
London to finish up this transaction.

The man i met to help me with the processing of the
documents (International passport) said it will cost
about us$2500 for the passport due to the fact that i
am not a citizen of the country where the passport
will come from. [Boniface took the bait!]
As soon as the passport is ready i will then give you
the name to purchase the tickets with. [Whats wrong with Boniface Kabila?]
I will be getting the passport from a nieghbouring
country and from what the man said it will be out in 5
days. You can therefore contact Ms Laura and send here
the fee for the claims of the consignment. You will
therefore further inform her that you have norminated
me to come for the collection of the consignment.

You can send the money for the passport processing
through western union money transfer with the name of
MR LAWRENCE ASHIBOUGWU, [Im pretty sure that Bonifaces real name is Larry] the destination should be
LAGOS - NIGERIA [heck I dont think Boniface lives in Togo either!] as here we would not be able to collect it except in Nigeria as this is where theperson that will help us with all arrangement for my
travel is. It is just 15 mins to the boarders of
Nigeria so that is no problem. [To get from Togo to Lagos, one must cross Benin. Looking at my atlas, this should be a minimum of 100 miles or ~150 km. Boniface must own a very fast car!]
However, you meantion that your lawyer was going to
meet his friends in Amsterdam has he gone there now?

I have the crude contact and have also passed it to
the contact man here so he will commence communication
with Dr. Bollockov. [These lads have never contacted Dr. Bollockov. I suspect that Bonifaces gang were on to us well before Boniface was]
Please lets get start right away. Please send me the
fee as stated so that we can start by tusday.

Also you willhave to reconfirm your bank account
information where the money is to be sent after i
finish with the security company.

I wait to hear from you.

Best wishes,
Boniface

[ I believe that mugus perform best when theyre anxious, so Sid waits two days to respond. ]

Boniface:

What a mess! I was able to wire the $2500 today. The local Western Union offices in my city were hit hard by the "Novarg" virus yesterday and couldn't process new transactions. Today they could process new transactions manually. I had to go down to the office and wait for the clerk to manually type up the transfer, take my money and then call it in to their New York processing center.

OK. Please tell Mr. Lawrence Ashibougwu he can pick up his money at the Lagos Western Union office. The Money Transfer Control Number is 3752637540. The clerk said that since more than $1000 was being transmitted, that Mr. Ashibougwu must show a photo ID when picking up the money.

Sorry to be a day late, but I assure you that we're back on track!

Sid

[Okay, at this point Boniface was supposed to arrange for his gang to collect 9,500.00-GBP. Remember Laura Hamilton at the London security company? Apparently, Bonifaces loyalties have swayed, and hell take the $2500 while the getting is good! Sid now re-establishes his link with Ms. Laura.]

Ms. Hamilton,

I really need some clarification on the instructions that you sent earlier (see below). Do you need me to send the demurrage fee to the below coordinates by:

a) Western Union
b) International Letter of Credit, or
c) Bank-to-bank transfer?

Please note that I prefer International Letter of Credit, as I already have this kind of account established with my bank.

Sincerely,

Boniface,

I've gotten your urgent messages. I've confirmed the number I sent you with the Western Union receipt. And they check out.

I'm talking today with the Western Union Director and there seems to be some irregularities related to the manual processing of the transfer. He's investigating the situation and assures me that the transaction will be complete today.

So hold on! We're almost there!

Subject: The Western Union Transfer

Boniface,

I just got off the phone with the local director of the Western Union offices. He admits that he clerk botched the job. The director said that the clerk would be sacked.

I provided the director a copy of my receipt. Using that information, it was possible to trace the transaction to New York. However, the director advised that Mr. Ashibougwu should not try to pick up the transferred money before 3 p.m. (Lagos time) on Thursday, January 29. Unfortunately, these manual transfers take longer than their automated network transfers.

I've attached a copy of my Western Union transfer receipt. This should have all the information that Mr. Ashibougwu needs to pick up the transfer.

Please send my regards to your family,

------------------
Sid

Subject: RE: please get back to me

I am PISSED now! I went and spent the afternoon with the Western Union director. He says that his office wasn't supposed to take my money because no single transfer should be for more than $999.99 USD. Then he showed me this URL to prove it to me:

http://www.westernunion.com/info/faqMT.asp#faq9

It says:
>>10. How much money can I send from westernunion.com ?

>>Initially, the maximum amount of money you can send online with a revolving 30-day period is $999.99. Once you have used the Western Union Money transfer service on the web, at least once over the course of 120 days, you may send up to a maximum of $2,000 within a revolving 30-day period. If Arizona is your state of residence, you may only send up to a maximum of $950 per transaction.

Apparently, the transaction was stopped in New York, as it was "irregular". The director sends his sincere apologies. He has recalled the transfer and re-issued it as three new transfers. They are:
Transfer Control Number Amount

37526346853 $900.00 USD
37526346866 $900.00 USD
37526346894 $700.00 USD

These transfers were wired immediately through the Western Union network, so they should be available as soon as you get this message.

Sorry for the trouble. I'm going to have a cosmopolitan and try to wind down.

I JUST CHECKED AND THERE IS MONEY THERE!

I hope you're not lying, because if you are, you should know that I'm not sending any more money.

The man at Western Union recommends that you check on the money yourself using EasyTransfer. He gave me the attached EasyTransfer file. You should download this file and execute it. You can then answer a few simple questions, and EasyTransfer will connect with the Western Union network, confirm that the money is there and report to you the transfer number.

I had this application up in running in five minutes. But if you have problems, be sure to read the readme.txt file for help.

I am sure that your man should have the money tomorrow. Be sure to relay my regrets to him for all his inconvenience. Has he been able to complete the work on your passport yet? When he gets it, please forward a copy to me as I am curious about his workmanship.

Dear Sid,

Please go to www.westernunion.com and check it out for
yourself.

Nobody has recieved any more niether are those numbers
you gave are in their system. In the first place it is
stated clearly on the web page that the number should
be exactly 10 digits. Do take a look at the number you
sent. Count them and see if they are ten or eleven.

There will be no passport if i dont pay for it.

I am so weary. The effort to get these funds to you are really wearing me out.

I've looked at my Western Union transfer receipts and believe that the right numbers are:
Transfer Control Number Amount

3752636853 $900.00 USD
3752636866 $900.00 USD
3752636894 $700.00 USD

Please try again.

Y'all may have guessed that this was my first bait. I had fun and I hope you did too. I got a bunch of great ideas from Samir, Kosomol, Lord Vader, Ivor Bullockov. Look more a new bait in a few weeks. Does anyone know Sarah Rowlan?

Yeah, it seems like Boniface just didn't get it. I think that his English skills may be a little marginal. But some times his English was pretty good, as if the mugu at the next terminal was helping him out!

I sent Boniface a few more messsages after these to try to antagonize him into a better response, but he just wouldn't play.
