Does any1 bother with scammers on sites like gumtree.com.au?

Hi,

I thought i would mention that there are alot of scammers on gumtree.com.au asking for email addresses.Does anyone in here or scam baiters in general ever bother with them?

A lot of baiters end up finding lads in their catcher accounts (email addresses they have set up to attract scammers) or on sites like scamwarners.com which have list of scammer details versus browsing classified sites. From a baiting perspective, this has the advantage of knowing for certain that it's a scammer contacting you, as you have evidence of their scam going in. That said, sites like gumtree do attract their share of 419 scammers, in particular pet scammers, as well as scams that are "419 adjacent" such as over payment scams.

well on gumtree.com.au its the buyers that are the scammers,there may be other scams like pet scammers,but as a seller i received a good number of scammers every week,some i cant get rid of a after they are reported they come back with a different account within days.Well you guys should check it out if you are in need more,they are pretty obvious.Not many buyers will insist on talking in email only in fact have never sold a thing to anyone who had asked me for my email address and they often say a similar thing like they are offering your asking price *or more and to contact someone else who is the buyer for payment asap maybe via paypal (send you an invoice) and they never will talk on the phone... pretty obvious.And a few others who simply ask for an email address.I was about inundated with them for awhile,havent been back.So if any of you guys want to give it a go,the robina, reedy creek,clear island waters,QLD Australia on the gold coast areas seem to be a target.

We do not involve ITPs in our baits. Putting an item that doesn't exist "for sale" on a site like this would likely lead to innocent people anticipating and inquiring about it.

There is a difference between putting fake solicitations on a public forum like Craigslist or eBay where ITPs will easily see it versus putting fake solicitations on something like a scammer WhatsApp group where the only people responding will be scammers.
