What the hell happened to Surplus?

In the beginning, there was Eater - and it was good. Then, it was decided that wasting a scammer's time was a glorious passion, but more could be done. Thus, ScamWarners was created - and it was good. Years passed and both sites evolved - until one day we realized some efforts were being duplicated.

The Surplus Forum was created to give baiters handy access to lads of all sorts. ScamWarners serves as a database of lads' contact information available for victims who are looking for verification. Sometimes the search for a lad brings a victim, friend, or relative to Eater, simply because the email address, line of script, or name appears in the Surplus Forum. What do we do when this happens? We direct them (rightfully so) to ScamWarners.

With this in mind, the Mod Team is choosing to lock the Surplus Forum. "Suicide Lads" choosing to post at Eater will have their messages moved to Surplus, so you may see a bit of new stuff here, from time to time.

Verified lads ready to be baited are listed at scamwarners.com. Instead of being lumped into one place, you can easily search for the type of lad format you desire. While you may choose any lad from there without signing up, if you do find new lads while baiting, we encourage you to sign up and post them so that actual potential victims might be warned. Instructions on how to post to scamwarners can be found below.

We ask that baiters looking for lads visit this ScamWarners Forum where lads are categorized into their various types (again, makes it easier to find just the right lad).

Adding Lads and Posting at ScamWarners

For those who have posted in Surplus (and hopefully will continue at SW) we suggest you create an ID at ScamWarners and continue the practice there. It is still recommended you use a different identity at each site, just so lads make no connection.

First and foremost, please remember Scamwarners is a victim support site and not a baiting site. Please do not post trophies or full baits, or even mention baiting the lad. While the initial format is important, all scripts used by the lad are relevant. After posting the initial email, you may simply post the lad's scripted responses, without your replies. Once the lad is off script, it is no longer relevant for Scamwarners. Please, also stick to facts only and refrain from making any humorous comments on the scam or using language that victims won't understand (don't refer to scammers as "lads" for example).

As described above, forum set up on SW is categorised by scam type, so please post in the relevant forum. When you go to the forum, you will see a section for Specific Scams with categories listed, for example:

Within each forum, the scams are grouped in topics using the reply-to email address to keep them together, so please search for the email address to see if there is already a topic for that email address. You can see an example of such a post here.

There is no need to post full headers, only the From and Reply-to addresses, Subject and IP address (if it highlights that the sender is not where they claim to be). Take a look at some posts by regular posters to get a better idea.

If you are posting a scam format that is not in English, then please add a Google translation of the email to the post. Most of these scams were originally in English and may well also be sent out in English and searched for by victims.

Guidelines for posting images to ScamWarners

The first step is to make sure all images you want to post are marked as "FAKE" or "Used by scammer". When marking pictures, make sure to mark them in a way that scammers can't copy them, easily remove your marking, and re-use them for scamming. We don't want to be a resource for scammers!

If you do not have software to add a watermark you can use a free online watermark site such as:

The next step is to make sure the images are the correct size for posting. To prevent the image from exceeding the regular width of our forum, please make sure pictures are no more than 600 pixels wide. To find the width of a picture, right click on it and view "properties". In the information that pops up you will see the image dimensions. To easily resize an image that is too large we recommend http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

To post images here you must first host them elsewhere online. Some photo hosting sites are:

Once you have the image hosted online, you will have a link (URL) for the image. Copy that URL and enclose it in the [img] tags here on the forum.

Please ensure any photos you upload are suitable for family viewing - no nudity (that includes topless and see-through clothing), no sexually explicit photos and no scenes of violence.
