It's been awhile for me but I wanted to hop back on to make a sad announcement.

For those who knew him, our once extremely active member and former mod, Lew_Skannen passed away from cancer yesterday.

I kept in touch with him since the older core group had slowly fallen off and left 419eater. Great dude and great sense of humor. Unfortunately most of his posts are gone

I remember Lew well from my early days here. He was one of the very first members here -- number 8.

For the record, his posts are not gone. All 1,879 of them are readily accessed here.

I know very well an old eater member "reverand Bob Torque" from the early days who sends his condolences and remembers him well. As of course I do too despite not knowing him.

This is very sad news. I've known Lew since his day one here on Eater. He was one of the very early members here on Eater and we've shared many a message. Please pass on my sincere condolences to his family if you're able to do so.

Although he was active here a long time before I joined, it is always sad to lose a member of our community. I feel it is an unfortunate truth that as more of the "old guard," and relatively recent joins too, disappear off into the mists of non-Eater activities, we will have to bear this unfortunate news more often. And there are some who, when they do shuffle off their mortal coil, will have nobody who can share the news with us; that is not to say that we are entitled to that knowledge when it does happen, but I am sure there are more fallen baiters out there who simply disappeared one day, never to return.

If there is some network of former Eater members out there, it would be nice to have some sort of means of contact to pass news along the grapevine when needed.

Lew gave me all sorts of help and tips when I was just starting out. He was a great guy.

Sad news, can't remember him here when I first joined but he was one of those who laid the building blocks of this site that helped encourage the rest of us to participate here.

That's sad news. One of those members that always had something worthwhile or amusing to say.

Also, undisputed winner of the Best Eater Username competition that was held back in the day.

Perhaps there should be a Roll of Honour, with links to trophies, baits and threads of interest relating to baiters who have passed on.

This is really sad news to hear. Lew was one of the original members here on Eater, he was heavily involved and was a fantastic baiter, he also worked hard in keeping up to date with lads emails and built massive spreadsheets that we used to use to keep track of the lads.

So sorry to hear this. I remember Lew Skannen in my early days on Eater but he seemed to have faded away a few years ago. RiP, fellow baiter! Sad
