Setting up a fake bank website is an extremely dumb idea - the last person I know of who did that ended up answering a lot of questions from the authorities.

I'd also advise everyone not to click on the link - 1st time poster posting a link to a website looks dodgier than Juan's cowboy boots.

thanks bware, just thought i'd provide something useful for scambaiters to use when making their calls. it's not a site that I created, just hosting for people who don't know how to host their own(from github) as when i tried to find ones to use for scambaiting i never found a good one.

b8er i'm not aware of any laws about hosting fake bank website. please direct me to the laws on this. nowhere on the site does it ask for personal info.. as you cannot create accounts with it.

As you describe it, it seems that the site might be targeted for use against Tech Scammers. Tech scams are not what we target at Eater.

While it might not be illegal to host a fake bank site (not saying it isn't, but for my point it's not relevant), please consider that such a site may be used by a scammer to manipulate an unknowing victim, someone that probably won't realise that it is not a real banksite they are visiting.

I am sure that your intentions are good, and that you have no ill will. The warnings by Bware and B8er are made in the same manner: they are merely trying to keep everyone (including you) out of trouble. Bware and B8 are both very experienced at this 'game', and probably have forgotten more than most of us will ever know when it comes to scambaiting. It would be unwise not to consider their advise.

Having said that: I hope that you stick around, read what we are about, and join us in creating some ladpain.

You could consider signing up for a mentor (see my signature) so you can get an experienced member helping you. It really helps.

i hosted the site as something for me to use while i scambait against all the indian call centers that call me. Most of the people that call me multiple times a day want me to login to my machine. then login to my bank so they can pretend that they've over transfered funds. then they ask for the money back. exactly what the <snipped - bware419ers> youtube vids mostly are doing. i guess this site is different.

i've only been doing this for a few years now.

We do not allow advertising of other sites/pages, baiter-related or not - especially those monetizing baiting. - bware419ers

I hope you aren't taking those calls on a number that can be traced back to you. Tech support scammers can be quite vindictive.

yes i generally do as the calls are inbound. i've only done a few outbound calls. what are the things that they'll do to you remotely?

Keiri Welcome to eater. We do not deal with IRS/Tech support scammers here. You can read a little about why in this post. I am not telling you what or who to bait in your own time or elsewhere, just saying that it is not a scam we bait or discuss on this particular forum.

As for the website, while the sort of scammers you deal with might not repurpose such as site for their own scams, the scammers we deal with here certainly would as would many other types of scammers. Romance scammers, for example, love using fake bank sites to "prove" to their victims that they have money, but just can't access it at the moment. For that reason we strongly discourage anyone from sharing links to such websites. Also, depending on where you live, creating such websites could expose you to your own legal hassles. And, as scam baiters we are naturally suspicious of any new user who posts a link (though I don't think you posted with any bad intention). So that's why your link was removed. And why we discourage anyone from posting anything that could be repurposed for use by a scammer against a victim.

I am going to lock this topic since it concerns a type of scam we do not deal with, however, you are welcome here and if you'd like to bait advance fee fraud scammers (romance scammers, lottery scammers, fake gold, etc.) please feel free to join in the fun. Very Happy
