I find it amusing that British take offense at "half hour" instead of "half an hour" but fail to realize their phrasing of "in hospital" instead of "in the hospital" has the exact same problem 🤣 |

"That'll learn you" actually goes back to Proto-Germanic *laizijanÄ…, distinct from *liznanÄ…. I prefer the spelling "larn" for this sense. German distinguishes the two verbs (both derived from *lizanÄ…, whose reflex is attested only once, in Gothic) as "lehren" and "lernen".
One phrase that irks me (I don't know if it's specifically Leftpondian) is "at the end of the day", when there is no day being discussed. |

4. Using 24/7 rather than “24 hours, 7 days a week” or even just plain “all day, every day.” |
Or as they say in the Appalachians, "aer day, err day" |

I've never liked the phrase "do the needful" which has been popping up on baits here recently. I looked it up and found that it is an English phrase more popular in India than anywhere else. Lads are starting to adopt it in their scripts and follow up requests that beg for payment. |

Aussie slanguage: "fair dinkum" and "dinky di" both loosely meaning genuine or real is annoying to hear. |

"Fair dinkum" and "dinky di" are rarely used in casual conversation these days. And that's fair dinkum, cobber. |

Point well taken on "alphabetize it." In my school days I was taught that use of the -ize suffix usually results in jargon. However, I realize that sometimes it is hard to avoid it. |

Once upon a time I worked for a Womerns who used to tell me the time was a 'A Quarter of Four' or whatever the number was. Years later I used that on Lads and they also kinda didn't like it sorta eh?

"Take care". Apparently I've got an undeserved reputation for running in front of fast moving traffic and getting drunk before picking fights with people bigger than me. |
