Personally, all I ever wanted was a

, but alas, we can't get everything we want. Based on the two instances so far, your best shot at getting a carebear would be to either harass the mods/admins a lot or be helpful, I guess? I'm less sure about the pink one. If we go back to the old Eater days when lotta and the old squad were still around, people often got things like ponies, goats, buns, and some other more esoteric icons either through asking nicely or randomly being subject to moderators' whimsy. Then and in more recent times, things like the goat and McFry are/were associated with specific moderators/admins. Some icons, like the car, don't have "official explanations," although the procedure was never a secret (Nurse Nasty had a bunch of forms that people could get a lad to complete to earn a car; at least, that's one way). For others like the whip and jackboot, there are vague trends that are less concrete (at least to us regular users). Some icons, like the suitcase and the Ninja

, are somewhat buried in Eater lore; one can theorize as to their explanations, and I have a solid theory for the suitcase at least, although many are most likely erratic and arbitrary. One could say that the whip is for extreme lad pain or time commitment, the jackboot is for impressive trophies, the flying monkey is for being particularly evil, the Jack Skellington has something to do with lads dressing in costume, but all of those are educated guesses at best, and the criteria and standards for each are obviously liable to change at any time. I'm sure most of it comes down to luck. I'm reminded of Skinner's pigeon experiment where the pigeons would repeat and emulate bizarre behaviors after observing only one incident of reward.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a more complete list of signature icons with at least hints as to their acquisition, as I like collecting things of no concrete value, but sometimes it's more fun to speculate. Some icons like the pole dancer and the

are hard to trace in the wild and thus deduce their meanings, leaving little room for anything but hazy guesses.

That's my answer, and I'm guessing that didn't help.

I noticed the carebear icons while secretly reading here during my vacation. I've been proposing them many times, in particularly for bware, so I don't understand why she doesn't at least have both of them in her sig line

ETA: I still think MrDapper deserves the tag "Dead end Harold"
