Received a what I thought was a typical lad "send me money" email. Opened it up and the lad supplied a MTCN for Money Gram. Also said that I couldn't collect right away due to the usual Lad bullcrap excuses for getting more money. Went to the MG tracker site and put the number in. Used the "senders" last name and low and behold; said the money was ready for pickup by a very West African name.
So the following questions come to mind:
1. Is it a real name of a victim?
2. Or have these lads set up a dummy account?
My own belief is number 1.
Anyone else seen this before? I know I've been away for almost eight years, but, it's a new one on me. |

It's not the most common scheme but it seems to show up in lad scripts fairly often. These "live MTCN's" are usually the lad sending a small amount to himself or getting another lad's live MTCN number. |

I am glad that it probably not a victim.
Just a thought: Would it be a good idea to send the number without the names to my other lads as proof that "I am serious" and not a "Joker"?
At least it might keep them a little more interested until they figure it out (and still accuse me of playing with them and wasting their time). |

Once the lads look it up and see it is (probably) in a currency that is not USD or for a very, very small amount, they will know exactly what it is. Perhaps they will then use this as a convincing trick on their victims.
It's much better to have the info posted at SW. have you attempted to do a search on the Reference Number (WU uses MTCN; MG Uses a Reference Number)? |
