Should we inform them?

Looking for some advice folks.

I have received scam emails in which the scammer impersonates a real person.

That person has social media presence and could be contacted.

Is it advisable for me to inform this person?

Would it do them any good?

Or might it cause undue distress to an innocent third party?

I'm curious as to what you mean by "real"? I've seen many a lad with many a name and have received buckets of emails from Melania Trump and anyone and everyone from the FBI and CIA. If they've got what looks like a "real" email address, check the return one and you'll probably find it's different.

Is there someone in particular that you're referring to?

Well this particular person is a member of the American armed forces.
Specifically a member of the Blue Angels Navy air display team.

The scammer impersonating them is a little mixed up and appears to think that the Blue Angels is a combat squadron.

However, that's not what is perplexing me.

I suppose the US forces have plenty of resources to counter this sort of thing. I probably should just ignore it and get on with baiting the scammer.

There are many scammers using names and pictures of real soldiers. Unfortunately there's not much that can be done about it. So informing the real soldier of this will only make them worry without them being able to do anything about it. It's not identity theft (I'm not trying to say it's not a bad thing to do, because I loathe the scammers doing this), the real soldier isn't in danger.
Personally I would be pissed and freaked out if I found out my name and picture were used by scammers. (That's one reason I never post pictures of myself or family members online anywhere)

I will just get on with baiting the scammer and enjoy extra satisfaction for their pain.

I'm also baiting this lad, so for purely selfish reasons I wouln't like that jeopardised in any way. Especially considering that in our last exchange it looks like marriage is on the cards.
