I've been following the sport of scambaiting for years (So long that I'm afraid to say because it might reveal my age LOL). I've read most of your threads I have access to without an account. Since my husband is military, I'm absolutely fascinated with the military romance scams and the women who get caught up in them. The picture trophies you guys post make me pee my pants. I've always been too busy with kids, jobs, whatever. But now that my kids are grown and husband is retired, I've finally decided to give it a go. I rarely ever get scam emails, but the other day I found out I have two trunks full of millions of dollars at Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport and just couldn't miss the chance. So this morning, I created a new email address and decided to bite. I'm super excited. The intrigue! The mystery! The glamour! Traveling to the seediest parts of my imagination! These are literally books that write themselves, people!! Hopefully I didn't scare the lad away by telling him I went to the airport first to try to find the trunks myself, though I did say I was pretty sure the reason they couldn't find them was because they were part of a classified operation on the part of my London colleagues, but if they weren't, I was very interested in finding out exactly who sent them and why. If I did scare him away, I'm sure I can find a million other emails to respond to somewhere.

Anyway, here I am. Finally. After all these years of stalking you folks. Let's roll.

Welcome, InaGodaDaVida! You'll find there are quite a few of us who started baiting once the kids got older Very Happy

I think it gives us a lot of fun life experience to draw from. My characters are mostly "younger" than I am in real life, and my aging, twisted mind has definitely found its release in baiting... which has probably been really good for my ex-husband, truth be told, because he would have been my target otherwise. Yes! That "aging, twisted mind!" LOL! I have been wanting to do this for so long. I rarely EVER get these emails, but I have constantly been on scambaiting message boards as well as message boards of those who have been scammed for probably close to 15 years, and I imagine all these scenarios in my head of things I would have said to string these people along. Especially the fake military romance scams, considering my husband spent 20 years in the Army. I've even thought of volunteering on one of the scam warners forums to lend my experience in that department to help people who have no experience with how the military works. I just got my first reply from my lad, so I'm going through all the hints and tips on Eater just to make sure I don't put my foot in something before I reply LOL. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about this or the pot roast I just put in the crock pot Very Happy

Yeah, definitely this! God, I feel so old LOL.

Hey! Not only was he in the Army for 20 years, but he spent time deployed with the 82nd, then moved to special operations and deployed to countries most people don't even know the US has a military presence, so there is absolutely NO bizarre excuse for lack of communication, access to money, or the process of obtaining leave that I don't have an answer for. And if, for some far out reason, I don't know the answer, my husband sure as hell does. Most of the moderators of the forums are great with revealing the scam immediately with the obvious stuff, but if the person being scammed still doesn't want to believe it, I could write a book with all the little things that stick out like a sore thumb to people familiar with the military, deployments, special ops, etc. I've actually thought about setting up a profile on plenty of fish or some kind of free dating site (I sure as hell ain't payin' for that crap) just to bait some of those idiots. I mean, theoretically, the more lads I have on the hook, the fewer there are to mess with vulnerable women. I know there are probably 100 for every one I'm baiting, but still..... it's just heartbreaking to me to hear some of the stories these women tell, and the things they've been tricked into believing about the way our military works. Ok, I'll shut up now. I've got a lad on the line and I've still got some reading to do so I don't screw it up.

BTW, when quoting the post above you, just put a little ^ before your sentence and everyone will know that is who you are replying to. Saves you from having to use the quote function all the time. Wink

For the second time I’m (happily!) spitting throug every little bit of info I can find on 419eater and scamwarners, the first one being somewhere in 2013. I did some baiting back then, but for some reason I never really got into it.

Something triggered me to look up 419eater again and I started baiting again a few days ago. All the things I learned from the forum here (and my own personal experience on business-communication with actual real employees in India and Africa) has been very helpful. I just received my first bank account (it has been reported) and a &@#-load of information and fake ID’s to post at scamwarners. Well, that was quick. 😳

And now I’m in the process of setting up some fake dating profiles, looking for love in all the wrong places. Still much to read up on too!

Hi, I've just joined after spending a few hours reading the fun posts about baiting.

I started doing this about 6 months ago before I was aware of this site but I'm now looking to move up to the next level with help from these forums.

It all started with a missing email that I found in my never used spam folder. I was shocked at the number of scams being emailed to me and annoyed I'd missed an important email in the spam folder so I emailed abuse and vile obscenities to as many scammers as I could. To my surprise, many replied and tried to continue with the scam.

Recently I established a persona based on a fictional doctor to bring things to life, complete with fake ID, non-existent address and photos. I am currently engaging with about 20 scammers.

The bait persona is a retired doctor with more money than sense who has been scammed previously. I'm deaf and confused by technology and use long rambling emails to waste their time.

I've managed to get photos of weddings, sick people in hospital, fake FBI ID cards and photos of briefcases that are supposed to be stuffed with money.
