Baiting characters - how do you do it?

I have one baiting mail with a fairly generic name. However, the details of the character may change to suit individual baits. Right now I am using three vastly different sets of details on three different illuminate lads all from the same account.

I used to make different addresses for different characters and always used the same details for that characer, but that just seemed to be too much of a hassle.

Curious how others choose to do it.

One email account is for one character, except for one account which is for a brother and sister. Rod and Annette, who are married, have different email addresses. Jean, who doesn't know either of them, has yet another address. And I have another address for reporting fake sites.

I usually keep each character consistent, so I don't have to remember how I am playing the character with a given lad, I just respond as that character normally would.

Me too!... I have several account, each of them with distinct personality.

I also keep my character consistent, one email for the victim (he "replies" to stuff from catcher accounts) and a second one for a second character that I can use for chops, confusion and other abuse. I've got a persona for each that I keep solid so that I can play the parts consistently.

Victim: an addled old man in hospice in a place with no WU or MG
Secondary character: his male nurse who is often a very greedy person

I have five baiting email addresses, and make up a new character name for each bait. At any one time I will have two to four baits active in each email account. Each bait has its own Word doc with pertinent info at the top and then all correspondence pasted in as the bait progresses. The active bait docs are kept in folders on my Desktop – one folder for each email account. Yes I am an overly organized person Mr. Green

but I am comfortable with my system.

I like the Word files because I can highlight things and make notes to myself. I also like to write an immediate response in reaction to a lad’s email but then save it to send later.

80% of my characters are sweet, slightly addled 75-80 year old widows living on farms outside tiny towns. I have found this to be the easiest and best type of victim to get multiple piggies out of a lad. The other 20% are whatever strikes my fancy.

Sometimes I will start a bait with just a character’s first name and then flesh it out as the bait unfolds.

I have Word docs as well but I only start building one when a bait has some legs and gets interesting and potentially worth publishing.

A different account for each character. I have more than I can count... At first, keep it simple - just 1 or 2. A 2nd character can help keep it fresh for you, and possibly enable some instances that would have been impossible with just 1. But 1 is really fine to start with. The more you do it, the more comfortable you'll be "in character", and ideas will start shooting out of your brain.

If you view this as a hassle, then it won't work. You have an end goal, which is to mess with your target as much as possible, at the very least. If it becomes a chore, you won't finish the job. It's his/her time that you're trying to waste, not yours, so make it as interesting and fun for yourself as you can.

It's better to keep your details consistent for each character and email address, because a lad might start emailing you from a different account without telling you. But it's not the end of the world if you do it differently.
