Also, the best thing to do in a situation like that where the lad asks directly for an ID card is to just stall and ask why they need your ID. Keep stalling and lying, challenge the legitimacy of their claims, and do anything you can to get them to shift topic. Often times just focusing on things like asking about a payment (the core part of an Advanced Forward Fee Scam). They like to talk about money so talk about money to them.

I know that is the goal, but I wanted to see his response when he found out that the phone number I had provided was to the White House. He said I was a scam and "lie to you".

Best way to start is to read the stickies in the Eater University, which will give you a lot of hints and tips. Then, sign up for a mentor using the Eater mentoring program.

When you are actually ready to start baiting, create a totally new e-mail address (one with no ties at all to you). Gmail is a favorite. Use totally fictitious info in the bait (you live in the State of North Ohio, for example).

Pick a good scammer out of the Eater Surplus E-Mail forum, then write a letter to that scammer (using your fake e-mail account): Keep it REAL SHORT (they usually don't seem to bother to read the initial e-mails anyway.

Something like "I got your e-mail. I am interested, would you please tell me more??" works real well to get started.

The next several e-mails serve to get him off script -- ask questions one or two at a time -- for example: "is this legal in your country?"; "Will I have to file a tax return in your country?" "Can we do this in Euros instead of Dollars? I don't use dollars." Go on like that until he is off script. Then the real bait starts!!! <g>
