New to scamming, Got one on the hook

I am new to scamming but am in the unfortunate position of attempting to sell a vehicle on craigslist. Recently I have graduated from being abusive towards scammers and lowballers to stringing one along.

The scam is the pretty basic craigslist vehicle scam. He sends me a check for 2x my cost, I cash it, and give half to the guys who pick up my vehicle. Obvious scam.

On a whim I told my new "friend" that my name was that of my cities police chief, and I provided the police stations address. He has mailed his fraudulent check to the police station, and I have the tracking info showing it has delivered.

Now that the check has been delivered he is telling me to cash it, which of course I cant. I am stringing him along by pretending to be nervous. Any ideas for what I should do next?

This is involving an innocent third party, which is highly forbidden on Eater.

If the scammer has any of your personal information, you should definitely drop it immediately (i.e. stop replying). If not, I don't know what you should do next, but a more experienced member should be able to help you.

Even if he doesn't have any of your details, you should still drop it as you've given him an ITP's details.

Just block his email and don't respond - don't make excuses or accuse him of being a scammer, just disappear.

oh shoot. I didnt think of it that way. more of a "directing him towards law enforcement"

If you'd like to bait, make up a baiting character with no connection to your real identity, and an address that is plausible but does not exist, and write to the lad as if he had responded to your ad (you don't have to have an ad) for a model of car that does not exist.
