Trying to find the ip of this guy, William J. Eldridge <[email protected]> I know he is a scammer and have been leading him by the nose for a couple of weeks now but can't track down his location. He says Afghanistan but I am sure that is not correct as his knowledge of the area is abysmal.
Any ideas? |

You might get an answer by opening a trial account at www.readnotify.com and sending a message via them, you get 25 free goes before they expect you to pay for their services.
Not always accurate, but it should at least show the correct country. |

Hi Robinhood,
It can be hard to track down a scammer's actual location these days as many email providers (including gmail) strip the originating IP.
I see the good "General" is well known on scamwarners (see here) with a few other fake IDs as well.
How important is his location to your bait? It's tricky because as long as the fiction of Afghanistan is a key part of the scam story, he will do what he can to preserve this idea. One way location can be important is if you're working him toward a safari and want to try and get proof. |

Wow even as I wrote he came across with what he wants me to do I quote:
The General wrote: |
I want you to help me receive a consignment box from a security company where it has been saved, it is due and the company wants me to apply for the dispatch, right now i don't have anyone to help me receive it and i hope i can count on you to help me receive it and save it for me, But the question is can i trust you to help me receive it and keep it safe pending on my return? |

Trunk box scam - Very nice, eminently baitable, rich and satisfying! Enjoy. |

Well the good General has asked me to contact a security firm to arrange to get the package. What is the best way to keep him on the hook? |

Then you almost give them money.
There is not one perfect way to bait. The end game is to waste their time.
Many options and paths are open to you, limited only by your own imagination. In the initial stages, your entire goal should be to convince the lad you are real, believe in the scam, and could be willing to pay.

They will ask for money but you don't have to send it to them!
Ask questions, one per email. And don't reply to their emails too quickly. Keep up a regular rhythm of replies, one a day, one every two days, and keep asking questions about the transaction. Your character must make sure he/she knows what to do because it wouldn't be right to make a mistake and mess up the deal here, so ask for clarification about everything. |
