Newbie here would like some help.

A friend of mine has been scammed and I want to hand this scumbag over to you guys to have some fun with.

Post the e-mail(s) (including headers) that were send by the scammer. You should redact your friend's e-mail address.

We need enough posted to verify that this person really is a 419 scammer. Look at what has been posted in the surplus forum of 419eater as a guide, then post the e-mail from this scammer there.

It may also be helpful to post the info on the sister site to this one - Scamwarners.com That will help get the word out in addition to causing this potential lad some pain.

I am sorry about your friend. Love scammers are the worst dirtbags, IMO. As BRUIN mentioned, if you can post the header and the scammail your friend received, here and at our sister site, ScamWarners, we might be able to prevent others from having the same experience.

Evening all.

I will try and get the email headers from her and will post them later.

Unfortunately she ended up speaking to him quite quickly over whatsapp.

Basically the story goes something like this...

She "met" him on a paid for dating site and soon became friendly with her and said what he was looking for in a woman which read like her to her if you understand what I mean.

She was naturally wary to begin with and things went on like that for a few days... she did reverse image searches on Google and nothing came up so she began to trust him a bit... he asked for her home address as he wanted to send her something to prove his feelings... she gave him a business address and two days later and for the following few days nearly 200 pounds worth of flowers arrived.... she naturally was over the moon.

Fast forward a few days and his job as an architect was taking him to Ghana (which raised my suspicions) and then miraculously he was having issues with his bank account and asked for some cash... I asked her not to send any but she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and sent him £200 which she viewed as payment for the flowers..

They then carried on talking until this weekend when he said that there had been a well collapse and people had died etc... he even sent pics of a body and a rescue mission, she goggled them and they came back as pictures from a temple collapse in India at Christmas. At this point she twigged.

Then he has obviously had to compensate the families and needs £500 for construction equipment that was damaged..

She is not going to send him anything else.

Basically this guy is a complete douche and I'd love to get him on the run for some more non existent cash...

Unfortunately not. The scammer is using Yahoo: all the addresses resolve to Sunnydale, CA. There are other ways to do it, but none available from this header.

I'm the friend cheeky monkey is talking about! I thought it would be easier to post direct.

I want to stress I AM still in contact with this bloke with the sole intention of wasting his time.

At the moment he thinks I'm trying to juggle my finances to see if I can send him some more money following the 'accident' . He does not know that I knew the accident pictures he sent were false within 30 seconds of receiving them. I have not pulled him up on any inconsistencies in anything that he said. I have reverse image searched all the photos he's sent me as I've received them - the personal pics didn't show up. We are in very regular contact via What'sApp - Around 2 hours a day, every day! I have never had to chase him for contact, he just keeps texting and so far he has never missed a day. I'm happy to waste his time like this - The most we've spent constantly messaging was 7 hours over one 12 hour period!

I have archived over 3000 WA messages.

I spoke to the dating site yesterday to see whether they were interested in any of the info I had even though he had left the site. They told me that they had deleted his account on suspicion he was a scammer. They didn't want any other info, but would block him if he tried to re register with any of the same details.

I'm not interested in getting my money back as I sent it viewing it as a business transaction and only sent what I could afford to lose. Mentally I'm not damaged by this. I know this is no reflection on me personally - I purely fitted a profile. I hadn't truly invested in this 'relationship' because it was too soon, we met on the internet, not face to face and because I was unsure where it would go and I had some alarm bells but didn't know whether that was me not being familiar with the situation or my old law enforcement instincts kicking in!. I was happy to see where it would lead and enjoy the experience! I must admit, I will miss the flirting though!

The Scam

I met him on subscription dating site. He approached me, we messaged then went to email. He called to persuade me to get WA as he was out of the country with his sick mother as it was easier to communicate. We messaged endlessly and he said he wanted to send me something to 'prove' how into me he was. I gave him a business address and then received 5 enormous bunches of expensive flowers _ apparently there should have been 4 more over 2 days in the middle, but they didn't materialise. He then said he had one last job to do in Ghana - I was a bit suspicious, but buildings do have to be built in Ghana as much as anywhere else, so I was prepared to go along with it. He sent me an unsolicited copy of a contract/promisory note stating the project was worth 1.5M sterling to him - I thought this was a strange thing to send to me and it DIDN'T make me think he was loaded as it's only a piece of paper. He made a point of telling me his credit card was blocked as someone had stolen a lot of money and it was in the hands of the insurance company so he'd had to get 60k in travellers cheques to take with him for construction equipment etc. This all made me edgy, but at the time had no reason to doubt what he was saying.

He arrived in Ghana and called me 'immediately' from a Ghana code phone number. Then called an hour or so later by WA - His story was the bank wouldn't honour the travellers cheques immediately and he needed money to eat. We had a big row on the phone because I was asking too many questions about how he'd ended up in this situation. After thinking about it I decided to send some money. He collected it and then that evening we had another huge row about the fact I'd sent the money but had questioned his professional prowess. We had a couple of quiet days, just as you would expect after 2 huge rows in a new relationship and then on the third day he was back to trying to convince me he was the man of my dreams.

Scroll on 5 days - His work was going well then I got a message saying there had been an accident on site and people had died. He then sent 2 pics - including one of a dead body - I did a google reverse image search and they came up in Indian news feed from December 2015. I then knew 100% he was a dud. I didn't tell him I knew I was being scammed, just reacted as he would have expected me to.

He then messaged on WA saying he was in trouble and could he call - He didn't call, but carried out the conversation on WA saying he'd repatriated the bodies and given the families compensation but now he needed more money from me to help. I told him I'd try and he backed off.

Yesterday he asked for the money again - I said I'd look at what work I had and what bills and see if I could send something by the end of the week In the course of this conversation he said he'd just ordered flowers to be delivered every week until the day we met so I would know how much he's missing me - bless him!

I have had 3 emails from him - I will post the headers for all three and the content of the first two - I will not publicly post the content of the third as it is very sexually explicit and could well offend. I'm happy to pm the content to someone if you need it.

Thank you for posting this. There is no doubt at all from the details that you posted that he is a Ghanaian romance scammer and he was there all along. The trip to Ghana is just so that he has an excuse for you to send money to somewhere he can collect it.

You mention that you are still in touch with him for the purpose of wasting his time, which is what this site is all about. But, it is not really safe in this case as he has your real life email and phone number (plus any other details you gave him before you realised he was a scammer). He is a criminal and while he is thousands of miles away from you, he could potentially cause you, your friends and family problems if he realises that you are playing with him.

If you want to waste the time of other scammers then please stick around, read the stickies and learn how to bait safely and anonymously.

Just block him and disappear. He will continue mailing you for a while hoping to pull you back in, but will eventually give up and look for a new victim.

If you make excuses or accuse him of being a scammer then he will deny it or try and talk you round.

Welcome to Eater. I strongly advise you to visit our sister site ScamWarners. The link is at the top. The folks over there will help you post the info to google and other search engines will pick it up-this helps other victims.

Now that you've blocked him (you have, right?), I'd also urge you to talk to the folks at SW who are experts at working with victims. The scammers are are huge dirtbags-they take more than money, they take victim's trust and self respect. We do NOT advise baiting your scammer. You are too close to the issue at this point. You won't be able to get revenge and the money is long gone.

If you're interested in baiting, take some time, read the stickies and Eater U. Then check the surplus section-there are a ton of lads out there waiting to be targeted!
