I need help with forums in general

I haven't used forums much before now and I need all the help I can get. When I do an internet search for help, all the sites that pop up are specific to the site forums that pop up. I want to be able to use a forum effectively. I don't even know how to use quotes. I know, I'm very green. Does anyone know of an online guide of how to use forums in general? Possibly with some tips and tricks, and more advances using tips? Any help would be much appreciated.

Somebuddy started some posts here that can help get you started with things like quotes, coding and whatnot.

I don't know of an online guide - this was my first forum when I started, also, and most everything I learned by trial and error and experimenting to see what things did and how badly I could break things. Wink

If you did find a guide, it probably wouldn't be very helpful here, just given that there are features on Eater that you really aren't going to find elsewhere.

^^^ You need to PM JC the information. It would be better if it was the Dummy guide. I have him now eating with fork. One day I will get him to wipe his mouth.

^^^If you resign from the Mentoring program and then re-apply you should (hopefully) be assigned a different one.

Just keep resigning and re-applying until you get one you like the look of (be warned some aren't house trained yet).

For some specifics about posting in forums forums, when you are typing in a Reply in a thread (like this one I am writing to you now), you can try out some of the forum options (like quote, URL, Img tags, emoticons and so forth) by using the buttons above the text entry section.

If you hover the cursor over the buttons you can see how they are meant to be used, and you can always click the "Preview" button to see what the post would look like before submitting it. Or deleting it if you are just trying out the posting functions.
