Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, decking the halls with holly and ivy, writing a list for Santa baby, wishing glad tidings and dreaming of figgy pudding... there is much to recommend the season. Smile

And of course, the festivities wouldn't be complete without music. So, what's your favourite festive song? Anything goes - it could be a carol, a pop song or a traditional folk song, maybe a seasonal nod from your favourite death metal group (!) - as long as it puts the sparkle into your christmas spirit. And if it's a really odd one, a little story why would be nice.

Me? Equal tie (hey, OP privilege!) between 'Winter Wonderland' for a gentle croon, and 'Santa Claus is coming to town' for a knees-up. Very Happy

I'm one of those freaks who loves Christmas music. I have too many favorites to mention them.

I'm not a Mariah Carey fan at all, but like this one sung by the girl who did it in the movie "Love Actually". (Maybe we need a thread for holiday movies!)

I'm quite in love with this geek-ish piece of sh... errr... contemporary music. That's the common song (children, youth, adults and ex-singers) of my choir's Christmas concert. "Everyone knows it, and it's a profecy".

Once upon a time I received the Boney M Christmas Album as a Present and it was one of the most traumatic events in my rather uncomplicated life. You see my Brother and Sister who were five years older than me (Yes Evil Twins) got cool stuff but I got this. My Parents didn’t want me to feel left out but didn’t know what else to buy me. I remember hiding it in shame as I didn’t want my friends to know that I owned this piece of Crap!

So before logging into the Forum this evening I was in the garage fixing (okay trying to fix) my Wood Splitter and yup this is what I was listening to on CD:

Seem to recall that Silent Night was voted the UK's favourite carol a few years ago - be interesting to see if that was still the case.

@Fo - for some reason I hated Three Ships when I was little. These days I love it. Smile

Personal favorite-"I Saw Three Ships". I heard Maddy Prior sing it and got all teary eyed.

I can sing counter tenor so "little Drummer Boy" is what I usually end up getting assigned.

Mariah Carey floats my boat, much to the despair of Mrs C, but IMHO all Christmas music sucks, apart from the Phil Spector Christmas Album from 1963, with classics like "Frosty the Snowman" and "Sleigh Ride" by the Ronettes which will have you going "ringalingalinga dingdongding" for days if not years.

Yes he's busy being a murderer these days, but listen to it anyway if you get the chance. One of the best albums ever produced, complete with the legendary Wall of Sound.

After the "Hands down" above, I had to erase that memory by listening to Jewel's "Hands" which does not once mention Christmas, but is on her Christmas album, presumably because it represents the spirit of the season without the sappy melodrama of Christmas shoes. (warning: religious song)

Interesting piece in the news this morning about how the old standards, no matter who they are re-done by, always do better than attempted "new" Christmas songs. Number one this year is the Mariah Carey hit " All I want for Christmas is You" released in 1994! That doesn't even account for the Bing (Crosby) stuff. Now how many remember Justice Beaver's Christmas song from a couple short years ago?
