New here and haven't read up anything, just wanted to wade straight in with the email I received after posting a smartphone for auction on ebay...

NOTE:- I'm selling it as an auction with Buy it now of £220ish.....

I just went through the listing of your item and would like to know if
i can purchase it for an amount of £400.00 GBP plus including shipping

I really want to put the wind up this person. I received the email at around 3am on 14 Nov 12, approx. 6 hours after listing the sale.

I need some good ideas..... I want this person put to task.

If ANY of your real life details are attached to that ad, drop it here! Bait safe is our motto here. The risks may be minimal but why risk it when you can open a fake account and go after him again.

Yes, my REAL details are there such as my email address which is also my Paypal email address.

Good advice, thank you. This Jame Smith person has previous after searching him/her. It would be good to 'pursue' them I think....

Answer from an email address used only for baiting as if you were selling an interocitor or a megafferator or the like. These lads answer so many ads, they won't notice if you mention an item that's in no ad they answered.

I'm on shiftwork over the weekend so won't be able to give it my full energy but I'm keen to try and distract this person from scamming unassuming people for a bit, even if that's all I achieve..

^^ You might wish to sign up for a mentor as well as reading the stickies, guidelines, Eater U, etc. The mentor sign up panel is in the Scambaiting Help, Hints & Tips area. It is not a good idea to bait from RL accounts; glad to hear you signed up for a new baiting email account.

Yes, you can reply from any other email addy. They just copy and paste replies like the one you got (hence the use of the word "Item" instead of the name of whatever you're selling) on as many ads as possible.

You could sell this person a 55 gallon drum of OMIASS and he would never bat an eye! These are typically short works but they are useful in tying up dummies time and effort.
