Up here in the frozen wastes we Canadians are celebrating Victoria Day, also known as May 24th or The Two-Four.

It's the birthday of Queen Victoria (who hasn't been our Queen since her death in 1901), and the first "summer" long weekend in Canada. Even though our current monarch, HRM Elizabeth II, celebrates her birthday in April, we still consider May 24th as The Queen's birthday. My people are weird that way. A two-four is also a name for a case of beer, which I'm sure is just a coincidence.

Every year on the Two-Four, we consume alcohol, shoot off fireworks, and get Monday off. After all, who doesn't like a day off where you can get drunk and blow stuff up?

So to my fellow hosers and everyone else around the globe, I wish a happy Two-Four to one and all!

Always wondered what that day was about. Enjoy the holiday, I guess it's one good thing about keeping the monarchy.

Why do you guys keep the monarchy? Not like they do anything for you except do state visits every 20 years and require you to put their images on your coins.

Your better than that. Dump them like radioactive poop and become a republic, you'll like it!! Very Happy

When I lived in Canada, you could get your beer delivered by truck if you bought several cases. The beer truck came to our home once a week.! And it was "Blue" we had delivered.

@Bart: I agree with your point about the monarchy, however, Canada's entire system still revolves around having them as Head of State. We have a Governor General, but again, they are only figureheads. It's the Prime Minister and the House of Commons who has the real power. Our system so closely resembles the British System, that it requires a Head of State to enact laws by giving them "Royal Ascent."

The best holiday, however, is still yet to come. We celebrate Canada Day on July 1st, and our friends & family in the USA celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. That equals a solid week of alcohol and explosives on both sides of the border, and nothing could be finer. Canada and the USA share many things, but our ability to have a good time is at the top of the list.

That is so true!! I'm just pissed off that border controls have become tighter between our two countries (Basically I mean that I can't afford to renew my passport)
