I'm not a fan of giving children 'odd' names, so my daughter has 'conventional' christian names.

Me and hubby did joke about naming her after my pregnancy cravings, but Wotsit or Quaver (after the crisp-type snacks that I couldn't eat enough of while pregnant) seemed cruel and whilst Fab (an ice lolly; boxes of 8 lasted about half an hour when my cravings were particularly strong) would have been apt, because of course she is Fab Very Happy

I predict that by age fifteen she will insist everybody pronounce her name "LEE-kuh."

This couple doesn't hold a candle to Frank Zappa when it comes to naming offspring. Wink

does "Like" mean something conventional in Hebrew? I work with Israeli companies a fair bit and they have some right funny names out there.

I heard about a family who allowed the eldest uncle to name the children. The first child was a girl and he named her Denise. Shortly after a boy was born and he was named

Denephew.

On a related note, at my workplace we get a lot of Chinese students, and many of them choose an English name to be known as while over here. Sometimes their choices make us wonder... recently we've had Ethel, Mabel, Aslan, Sky, Tomorrow and Porridge. Yup, Porridge. Guess he likes the stuff!

^^^ laughing at "Porridge". Thank heavens they are not in the South or his/her name would be "Grits"!

Our daughters were named after a character in Little Women , one after a poet, one after a relative and one after a famous aircraft carrier her dad was on (yes, it is a girl's name)

What I don't get is, if they wanted a modern equivalent of 'love', why didn't they just call her 'Love'? Unless they wanted to avoid giving her siblings a complex, but I think Pie is already half way there... Confused

@Morgain-I was sitting here mulling over aircraft carrier names in my head,when I finally remembered you were in the UK.Good thing-ours were mostly named after battles,and famous ships of the revolution.Some interesting names for kids there Shocked
