After 2 public holidays last weekend, we get another 2 next weekend, a Royal wedding, followed by Mayday.

While not a royalist, Mrs Cropper and I plan to watch the wedding armed with a bottle and 2 shot glasses. We will drink a shot down in one, every time the bride is compared in any way to the late Princess Diana.

It may be a good idea if I refrain from posting on Friday afternoon. Wink

I can't see myself and Mrs 007 joining a street party around these parts... the neds will be full swing with their Royal edition Buckfast bottles and commerative LSD tablets.

Might catch a bit of it on TV, but I have a loft that needs gutting too.

Most of the Diana references I suspect will come from the America networks although I stand to be corrected.

It is like doing the same thing when watching the Lord of the rings and take a shot every time the ring makes someone "strange" or when Sam is acting like he want Frodo to be more then a friend. The result is going to be the same, You'll be wasted before the "i do"/"my brother, my captain, my king" part.

Have fun and you'll probably need another bottle.

Do any of you UK folk really care about this?

Here in the US, the media always made a big hype about the Royal Weddings, which most people think "Who Cares?"

I do like the drinking game, but your sure to be piss drunk in about 20 minutes.

No, but it will be a fun way of wasting a public holiday, or at least 20 minutes of it. If all goes to plan, I could be asleep by the wedding itself. Coverage starts at 8am, but I can't drink that early in the day.

Many parts of the UK have been underwhelmed by zero applications to hold a street party.

We will be getting up at 3 am in our time zone to watch.

I got to stay home from school to watch Queen Elizabeth's coronation; I watched Diana and Charles' wedding so I will be making this a trifecta and watch this wedding. I think there is something about the "little girl" in many woman who like the idea of princesses and fairy tale weddings.

I watch our presidential inaugurations; but gave up watching space launches years ago as too boring.

I'm ambivalent about the whole thing (and most things for that matter). But getting a bit pee'd off by how much I seem to have osmotically absorbed via media overkill on this poor girl, and her pushy mum even though I try to avoid all mention of it. Mad

The plan is to protest my defiance by working as normal in a display of miffed but dignified refusenik... erm... ism.

I love that we have a Royal Family and I love the pomp and pageantry of Royal Weddings, State Occasions etc.

If it weren't for having a young daughter, me and hubby would probably be doing similar to Roy & Mrs Cropper whilst watching the wedding - the shot drinking thing. Instead, we have flags to wave, bunting for indoors Embarassed

and will be having a Royal Wedding picnic complete with Union Jack paper plates etc - hey, my daughter insisted Razz

Bought a treat for hubby - a bottle of the Kiss Me Kate commemorative beer Laughing

Last summer we had a royal wedding in Sweden as well. Despite me being a republican i couldn't stay from the thing and watching the bride say yes.

And here there is perhaps prudent that i explain myself. Especially since my "Palin for president" in this thread.
In Sweden a republican just means that you are a non-royalist and not a supporter of Bush, McCain or Palin.

I wish them the best of luck and many people will enjoy the spectacle, however I've cut down a 20ft conifer tree and on Friday I will be busily cutting up the trunk & branches (by handsaw as the chainsaw is knackered).

Off down the pub in the evening - but that's nothing unusual.

Mrs Bravo made me watch the Barbara Walters special and that was enough for me. Although I do enjoy a good drinking game. Luckily enough for me the Bravo family will be camping with no electricity this weekend.

Slightly off topic but... What the he'll happened to William? I remember in a completely hetero way thinking he was a good looking young man. I saw him on the special the other day. Can he not afford some hair plugs? He needs hair! I guess it doesn't matter when your a Prince.

I don't think this reflects the views of the majority of female Americans. Almost every little girl (and some big girls) dream of being a princess and marrying a prince. And many Americans are intrigued with the whole idea of the monarchy -- kings, queens, princes, and princesses -- and castles and the like -- though we obviously rejected it here in the US.

Does your drinking game include newspapers? If it does it is time to cork up the bottle. This can be read in a Swedish newspaper today.

Back on topic, there seems to be a divide of people who are genuinely looking forward to the wedding, and others who couldn't care (but who are still happy about the free bank holiday) - I'm in the latter group but the wife has already decreed that the day will be spent decorating Crying or Very sad
