it is not that kind of a profession that will be first on anybodies list, so you can assume that most of them were originally forced to take up the trade by violence in any form or economy.
Basis for this all is of course the paying customer who is equally guilty! |

Unfortunately, as disturbing as this is it is by no means uncommon. Similar stories come out of the rest of Africa, China, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, etc. |

Unfortunately, it is a big problem even in countries like the US and Britain, so it's a scourge that affects all countries. If memory serves me right, it is up with drugs, weapons and antiquities as the most profitable businesses in the world. Sickening.
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the lads were involved. |

I even know of a Nigerian woman who obtained her residency permit here, and then started to act as a madam for other immigrated Nigerian girls. She kept these girls' passports and earnings.
She was brought to trial, but for some incomprehensible reason, not convicted ! |

In the instance that you give above, most cases of forced prostitution in the UK involve Eastern European gangs. |

Never said this was a specific Nigerian problem, but I was reacting to the fact that the article pointed out that "women acting as madams is something new". Sadly, it is not.
I am in Belgium by the way (and my experience is first-hand, it was a case we treated ourselves, albeit in defense of one of the exploited girls). |
