Just got an email in my catcher account from someone.. it contained about 200 email addresses in the "To:" field (didn't count them..) and a small message :

"None of you won money this is a 404 scam. For more information on these types of scams contact Google 404 scam.
I'm sorry to waste the time of those who already know this but just in case someone was tempted I wanted to warn them."

It seems to be from an ITP, obviously - a potential victim if you will. I'll reply that (s)he has 404 Page Not Found HTML-errors confused with 419-scams Wink

(And no, I won't do a "reply to all" ... )

EDIT : just as I was replying, I thought.. wouldn't this just be a mass-bait from a lad to see which email ads are still active?? Well I'll risk it, it's my catcher account anyway Smile

It does happen sometimes. I expect the lad has sent out an email using the cc field not the bcc one.

It looks like a warning email from someone who received the lad's format, and found that there were other addresses in the cc field, so thought they had better warn everyone, so nobody was tricked by the scam. Yes, they were confused by 404/419, and it was thoughtless to send everybody's email address to all the other people in the cc field (they should have used bcc) - but I imagine that they were well-meaning.

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?

That's what I thought as well (Branwen), I emailed the original sender about the 404/419 mistake and that it'd be a good thing to use BCC if this may happen again sometime.

Well, I replied to this guy and got a really nice email back:

Quote:

Wow, this is my scam baiting account. When I saw this guy sent his whole mailing list I though it would be nicer of me to warn everyone just in case someone fell for it.
I go by B1ll S. Pr3ston, Esq. That's a character from the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I have accounts for all the characters, one of my favorite things is to pass the lads around. The movie has a lot of historical personalities so they may end up talking to Sigmund Freud or Attila the Hun. I just started this a few months ago and it's a lot of fun.
<geo location snipped> a great place, I'm in the <snip>
I'm really glad you dropped me a line, it really made me smile.
Take it easy,
'Bill'

Then we had a short email-chat about scambaiting.. turns out he is a frequest visitor of another scambaiting site Smile
