Hello everyone

I posted my catcher account email to a couple of open guestbooks. Among the zillions of spam messages received, I've noticed a significant number of love/romance emails from Senegal. The emails are definitely non-scripted; the senders describe themselves as Senegalese and the headers also indicate so.

The tone of the messages is completely different from those of the typical Russian bride. The Senegalese emails tend to be shorter, more personal, they don't attach stunning photos from modeling agencies, etc.

I responded to a few of them and I got straight forward answers, and to the point. There hasn't been any hint whatsoever of money being requested, even after several rounds of emailing. Even my suggestion of visiting them in Senegal has been welcome.

I am unsure how to handle this. I can't believe that they are not scammers. My catcher account is new and the only places where I posted my address were in those guestbooks.

Any comment or views?

If they're harvesting your email from guest books, they're more than likely scammers. Not all love scammers use fake pictures etc and ask for money right off the bat. They will wait until you've "fallen in love", before they want money for an air ticket to visit you. Keep the emails going and see where it goes. Wink

If they are contacting you from those guest books they are going to be spammers at best and most likely scammers as well.

I will PM an email address for you if you would like to forward some of the emails to me I can take a look over them.

Scammers from each region will behave in different ways, it is often possible to have a fair idea of where a scammer is based on the way they scam.

Senegalese are usually orphans in a refugee camp and need you to contact their bank to collect your / her money, I would be interested to see their latest trend Wink

Please don't post them via pm's as it's so much easier to get input from all the love baiters on the forum.

You can post a few of the emails here so we can take a look, but as I said, take it a bit further and see where it goes.

Hi Anchovy!

If you'd like to share your bait, that would be wonderful! Is it a Refugee? If so, you can turn it into a Love Bait, or you can turn it into something else if you wish .... my longest Refugee has a sister-brother relationship with my (married male) character.

Refugees (or, rather, Lads from Senegal) can be very suspicious and untrusting types! So go slow and play innocent and gullible!

You can certainly let everyone know who you are baiting right now - or you can keep the details secret if you wish. I often change the names of my Lad on the forums, so that Google can't pick it up, just in case he's that sort of Lad who likes to google himself. I do the same with my characters - just in case. I like to try for long-lasting baits, so I don't want any Lad knowing that I'm baiting him.

Glad to hear that you have got your Lad convinced about your character!

If you'd like other people to join you in baiting that one, you can always post the email address here, and then anyone who sees it can send a mail too. And maybe compare notes with you on this thread. It'd be helpful if you also posted the first mail you received from 'her', and the header also (remove your character's name and email address first).

It's a cool idea of yours to have your character engaged to be married - and the way that also prevents phone calls. One of my characters actually met a local woman, married her, and had a baby in the middle of his Refugee-bait. And another one of mine has a local boyfriend and an online lover .... and none of her Love Lads mind at all, of course. They love her (money) anyway. And I like inventing my character's stories.

No reason you can't continue with that bait - no expertise necessary, and the forum is a good place to ask for help if you would appreciate some! The Lad won't be able to provide the picture you want, of course, unless he is good at photoshopping, because he'll be using photos he downloaded from somebody else's website, and doesn't have access to the woman on those photographs. At the moment the Lad is still sending you his 'scripts' - his pre-written letters. But he'll come 'off-script' in the end, and start writing the emails himself.

The first email was not sent out long ago, so anyone who wants to join in can send replies to that from their own character. They will get the same scripts at first, but after the Lad's scripts have run out, the replies will diversify.

Its said really that they are that stupid and fall for it. Look at my first mail i sent, it say's U.R. Gila (gila means crazy in Indonesia).

ill try to get some sort of trophy out of him though. If he doesnt want to send me a pic of her with the sign ill ask one of the Reverend =P.

My girlfriend is getting a bit suspicious and if you show me more pictures of the place where you live she might believe im just helping you. A coupl eof months ago, I left my email in a few guestbooks, which I found by googling the usual "guestbook mugu or guyman" keywords. For the life of me, I can't remember the exact guestbook but now I'm receiving a flood of messages from Senegal, confirmed by email headers.

Those messages are of two categories: (1) the ones which are after "romance" directly and (2) first email is about looking for romance but the second one starts with the refugee story, the orphanage, and the reverend/pastor.

In my humble opinion, the Senegalese approach is much simple; it's easy to put them out of a script and sometimes the initial email has the exact email address than following emails (as opposed to using one for the general spamming process and a second one to reply if you are interested). Getting simple trophies like asking them to complete ridiculous forms is quite straight forward, although I've never managed to extract a good pic. I think that the Senegalese love scam is way behind the traditional Nigerian 419 or the Russian bride one.
