I'd imagine a bit of a slapping around is pretty much part and parcel of an arrest over there, they aren't all that big on the 'rights' of the accused. Anyone else remember the video of an EFCC bust on a cybercafe a couple years or so ago, where one of the knelt and handcuffed lads got a backhander for a wise crack or something? Might be on youtube. It also might've been because a western camera crew was on the scene, to show how the Nigerian authorities are getting tough on 419.
Sorry, too serious maybe, but the 'torture' reference made me think of it.
