This lad is confusing. First he says he wants to meet you at the Atlanta airport. Then he asks you which airport is closest to you. Then he says you have to get him at the Atlanta airport, and in the same paragraph asks for the airport name. Then he says Savannah is too far.

What's with him, anyway? Confused

I'm not street-savvy enough to know where a Crips 'hood is in Atlanta. Since he is apparently an Atlanta local, I expect he would know where this is and maybe the significance of the red bandana (which, I suspect, is the mark of rival gang). Definitely NOT a risky-free venture for him!

The trick to getting lads on safaris is pretty simple. You just have to make them believe that:
A) you have the money and are naive enough to part with it
B) the ONLY way - or the easiest way, if the story allows - they can get the money is by traveling to a specific location

Never treat your baits like aims or goals. That creates a dependence on the lads and, believe it or not, like dogs smell fear, lads pick up on dependence. So, at all times, even if you'll be getting something from the lad, you need to make him feel like he is dependent on you and you couldn't care less if this falls through. Don't just flat out say it, though. That won't help your cause. Instead, simply plant the idea in his mind.

If you want more "direct" help, I don't mind making some phone calls to your boi. Lads love my silly voice. Very Happy

Thanks. Good advice. I may take you up on the direct contact thing. He does want my "brother-in-law" to call him. I probably need to do a little more set up work on him, though.

We had a meet a couple of years ago with a scammer in Atlanta. It was prearranged and the Atlanta PD were notified. Great pictures were taken of the meet including an Atlanta baiter posing WITH the scammer. He pretended to ask directions. No response from APD. Easier to issue traffic notices than attempt a jurisdiction nightmare.
Go for the "meet" though and I'm sure there are street cams there. Wink

I know it is a long shot but I suspect a lad in Atlanta has a chance at being a non- U.S. citizen. This opens the door to ICE and their cyber crimes division. If he has defrauded some one and they can connect him, the previous case and current attempts, his status in the U.S. might land him back home on the most unfavorable of terms. It never hurts to let an agent know what is going on incase they can act. 866-DHS2ICE is the general, public intake number. The least they can do is take the iformation they get from you and say we will look into it.

Um... because that might protect some actual victims from getting scammed by this guy? Rolling Eyes

Personally, if I had the choice between baiting a lad and getting him thrown in jail, I'd go with the option that saves his real victims even if it means I miss out on a little fun. Razz

That said, I agree with the general consensus here that there's a snowball's chance in hell of even getting a police report written, let alone having him arrested before the crime has actually taken place.

So I'm all for the webcam safari in this case. Very Happy

^^ Talk doesn't cut it. You must remember that there actually needs to be a case to go to court. When I say "case", I don't mean that the crime has to exist (which it obviously does). I mean that a prosecutor would have to have all of the information and, with it, convince a jury (every last member) beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant WOULD HAVE really done it. The best defense would be, "I was just kidding, your honor".

Don't get me wrong, it's not impossible, but the failure rate in such a case would just be too high for the DAs to even pick it up. But I guess that depends on your county. I know it would never happen in Sac County, for example. Most minor possession charges here don't even go to court, and that's WITH all of the evidence.

There are also many other factors. One could write a book about this, but I'll just stop here.

"I was just kidding" doesn't sound like it would hold up in court, especially with the usual "my grandmother died" "that's nice, now hurry up and send the money!" crap we tend to get from lads. As the emails would show (you did print out the emails for evidence, right?) the lad was trying to get the baiter to send money to pay nonexistent fees to get a fund that does not exist. Not looking good for the lad's case. Then again, I'm not a lawyer either.

At what cost? Trials may seem "free" because no one is asked to pay fees for them, but they are very expensive. That money has to come from somewhere, right?

E-mails are weak evidence, especially for a crime that never happened. As silly as "I was just kidding" sounds, there's really not much the prosecutors could counter with. By that same token, couldn't YOU find yourself on trial for promising lads great things?

I really don't want to get too far into this because, again, I'm not a lawyer. If you truly are interested in this topic, I suggest you get someone that works in your district (prosecutor, judge, investigator, assistant, whatever) and talk to them about it. You'll get the best information that way, and find out how things work in general. This may sound incredibly nerdy, but it's a very educational thing to do.
