Hi - first off - I had NO CLUE that there were things as a dating scam.

I had never joined a dating site before, but my marriage has ended, not by my choice and I decided - what the heck.

I think that I have been had.

Met this really great guy. Not too cute - widowed with a 4 yr old son. We have talked on the phone, chatted, emailed all that stuff. We even exchanged addresses after a couple of weeks.

He went overseas on business and while over "there" he sent me the most beautiful bouquet of flowers - two - worth over 200.00 - I am sure. Shocked the heck out of me.

Do scammers send stuff like that?????

Yes, usually by using stolen credit card information - they will not use their own money.

What are the things that led you to believe that you were the target of a scam? Did he ask for money from you?

I would steer you towards scamwarners.com - there will be information on the types of romance scams and they are more geared towards providing support.

he did end up asking for money. I was quite suprised.

He says that he was in India on business and then he had to have a wellsfargo accnt opened so that the company he was supplying could pay him. He said that they couldn't do it another way.

Then he asked me to send money to his friend who has his son on vacation in London.

I told him that I had no money and he knew my situation - then he asked me to get a loan. No way!

So - I have not heard back from him and figured that I had been taken by a scammer.

Hi areyoukidding me and welcome. It definitely sounds like a romance scam. For some reason they often pretend to be widowers with one young child and are often travelling. Please do visit our sister site, ScamWarners.com. You can find the forum here: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/index.php

There is a section specifically for romance scams where you'll find more information. You can also post there and get some support and advice.

I'm sorry that you were scammed. Crying or Very sad

Thank you all for your replies.

I figured as much - but didn't want to believe it. LOL As I am sure that is with all of those who have fallen for such scams.

I am looking at the sister site - thank you both for the info.

You're right, it can be hard to admit, but don't worry, you're not alone. You're welcome and good luck.
